the composite bed is actually strong and will not dent and rust like a metal bed. the plastic bed caps on the other hand are pretty easy to beat up. i have a lot of little gauges and deep scratches from loading my motorcycle and other stuff on the tailgate. a couple members here make steel tailgate reinforcements and tailgate caps that would help with this.

And you said that it was priced one year older? I just don't imagine you can negotiate a very good price when you call and say I want this this this and that, see you in 10. Can you?

    That's a hassle...

I bought a 2011 in January of 2012 which is one model year old since the 2012's came out in Oct of 2011. Toyota changed the price on the dealers website to sell the truck. The 2012 was $32,500 mine was $28,400 for the same truck. There wasn't any point in trying to negotiate when the truck was at the bottom price and there were 2 (2011's) left anywhere around here. I didn't want the redesigned front end of the 2012. I wanted a new not used truck. They got paid and I got a really good deal for my area, there was no room for negotiations and I already knew that. They weren't aware of the price drop on the truck till I got there to sign the paperwork and they had to change the selling price to what Toyota had changed it to. I had done my research and knew the bottom line on the model years. I didn't need any options of the higher trucks. I was replacing everything on the suspension and didn't want any of their overpriced options. I have driven 4x4's since 16 and know how to drive one without the need for ATRAC or any of the other nanny stuff.

That's Toyota's say on it. Don't like it there's always a Frontier and it's problems.

Removing the tailgate a common feature on domestic full size pickups as well, and a recommended best practice not to rely on the tailgate for strength.

I would hope the salesman or person at least knew how to properly use "sales" and "sells" or the past tense "sold."

Also, I have never toyed a salesman. Did you get a better price?

Im my area they don't even hardly negotiate at all. Best I can do is around $1,500 off sticker and maybe $750 in accesories. I remember one dealer flat out telling me he would knock $500 off sticker but I had to pick one up off his lot and would have to take whatever colour and vehichle options they had in stock. When I told him that wasn't even close to good enough he basically told me they have a hard enough time keeping Tacomas on the lot as it is so why should he work a deal with me.

Needless to say I took my business to a different dealer who was more willing to work a deal and I have been loyal to them ever since.

Anyway you got a great reduction, here in Canada the price difference between current year model and last year model is usually only around $500-750 less.

That's a pretty good deal and convenient that you didn't want the new front end. Good for you.

As for your comment if I wanted to switch to a different truck every time I found something I didn't like I wouldn't be here.

I wouldn't trust it for strength, no, but we have always loaded our equipment via ramps on the tailgate and then closed it or left it open with little to no weight on it.

Wow you are so smart, thank you for taking the time to correct me on this. I also like how you tossed in some humor, oh boy what a giggle I got out of it.

Certainly you must feel real proud of yourself catching these errors and now when you get home to your significant other, be it male or female, you can show off your demonstration of intelligence to him/her. Yep you sure showed Mr. Salty from TW a thing or two about grammar didn’t you.

Does that make you feel better now little man?
