Hey guys, I’m currently in the process of buying my next truck. After a week or so of searching locally, I’ve found a 2015 TRD Sport DCLB for 31k CAD with 60,000km on it (roughly 37,200 Miles). I’ve also found a 2016 TRD sport DCLB for 34k with 58,000km on it (roughly 37,000 miles). As far as driving, I prefer the 4.0 over the 3.5 because of the Low end power and transmission seems to be smoother in the 2015, but the 2016’s interior completely blows the 2015’s out of the water. My main concern about pulling the trigger on the 2016 is the reliability considering it’s the first year of the 3rd generation. The 2015 is the last year of the 2nd generation and Toyota has seemed to work out the kinks on it. What do you guys think?

If you can do without the upgraded interior/tech get the 15'.

IMO 15' vs 16' isn't even a comparison, 15' wins easily. If you were comparing 15' vs 18' or 19' that may be a different story. I think a few tweaks were worked out the last cpl years in the 3rd Gen, from what I've seen on here. Personally I would still get the 15' regardless in that scenario, just my preference

Hold out for a 2016-17 O.R. More options or virtually the same price...

    2015.

I’d never buy a third gen. They are ugly, drive horribly, and have reliability issues.

The interior is nice but thats the only upside

I had the exact same thing. In may 2016 I found a 15 with 6k miles .. so I drove the new 16 and the 15. Ended up going with the 15 for the 4.0. Feel off the line. I also kinda liked the simplicity of the inside (personal choice I know ) ... even though some of the appearance things on the 16 I really liked. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the grille.. stoked
On the choice . 40k miles . Still stoked

I'd say the 2015 as well. But I've got a 2nd gen too, so I might not be completely unbiased. l love my 2012.. The power and proven reliability of the 4.0 is rarely, if ever complained about.

Go ask this in the 3rd gen and you will get the complete opposite answer. For me, I wouldnt buy the first year of a new model no matter the manufacturer though.

I have a 2015 and love it. Never driven 3rd gen to be honest but my rule of thumb is never buy a 1st year of a new gen now . I’ve had a few first years of a new gen (other brands than Toyota) and always had issues.

Bed rug, ARE bed top, Weathertechs. Little goodies here and there!
2016 has/had a lot of issues. Just look in the 3rd gen section for the pudding. 1st year run didn't go well.
Although I too am biased - 15 for the win.

    I love my 17, miss my 09.

I completly disagree with the comment about the 3rd gens driving horribly.

Now let’s look at th3 money, 15 is 3k cheaper for a couple hundred more miles, seems like a better purchase.
