Because people are being convinced that it's the perfect system. All people hear is "Free Healthcare". When is anything actually free? It's a huge bureaucracy that costs a fortune to run. Typical Government you know. They can mess up anything.

Canada has just over 36,000,000 people

Why do automakers keep jamming all that junk into trucks? I'd be afraid to be rough with a new 3rd gen, might hurt a display or sensor lol. Also when they start to age, alot of tech is bound to fail. I geniunely wonder how this is going to change the resale value down the line, as getting those things replaced are quite expensive. I wouldn't want to be messing with touch screens and adaptive cruise etc etc. There should be a bare bones model that doesn't look like shit, say some nice seats, color keyed stuff, and not cheapo looking rims but without all the bullshit tech :bored:

Toyota screwed up the engine and transmission in the 3rd gen. Buy the 2015 or better yet get a 4runner if you dont need a bed.

    I did some stuff.
Take it from someone who has owned a 2016 already... get the 2015. the transmission issue was a nightmare. only owned it for 6 months before i couldnt stand it anymore and sold it. I haven't had a single complaint about my 2015. 2nd Gen FTMFW

    You guys are silly.

For the OP, I don't think either would be a bad choice it's just a "do you want to pay more to get more" question.

I would drive the 16, as some can't get over the way the transmission and drive by wire is programmed. The 3rd has a good bit more power, but you have to ask for it.

I've always looked at the Tacoma as a little Truck with a wimpy engine, so I've been just fine with it the way it is. I've driven the second gen and note a little better throttle response at low rpms, but nothing earth shattering.

OP, my 16 has only had one issue (coolant bypass valve was leaking) in three years now. None of the other problems reported on TW. Its been a pretty solid replacement for my 2004. I'll leave these other folks to debate about which is more likely to win the Daytona 500.

2nd gens might get off the line first, but once the 3rd gen gets the rpms up, it’s all over for the 2nds except the tears. :infantry:

Too many but also not enough mods
What is the price difference and interest rate for a brand new truck compared to the 2 trucks you like?

Both are great vehicles. At the mileage your looking at, most/ if not all minor issues should have been resolved. Id ignore most of the responses here and determine how YOU like the trucks. The 3.5 may be "new" in the tacoma but it has been living in many toyota products for quite some time.

What do you guys think of a 2012? I know they had secondary air injection pump issues but I heard it’s not covered under warranty. I found one significantly cheaper at 25k CAD and 93000km (57000 miles).

Love mine. If it’s in good shape and well maintained you should consider it. Toyota has sent letters to owners of 12’s regarding pump failures and are now covering them if they fail.

Since it seems like your drive it, what matters is what you think.

I owned a 2017 for 6 months then sold it and picked up my 2014. Took some loss, but haven't regretted that decision. All of Toyota's software updates did nothing except give people hopes.

I was once off roading in my 2017, in 4Lo climbing a gravel portion of the trail in higher altitude. The 17' felt like it struggled just to climb. It couldn't do it in 2nd gear like past 2nd Gen Tacoma's I've owned. 2nd gear bogged down and shifted into 1st. It's the first truck I've ever driven where I felt where power was a concern crawling or climbing. I'm sure it hasn't been an issue for the 3rd Gen owners, but I honestly hated driving that 17' to and from work. The 2nd Gen may have less hp, but at least there's the supercharger option. I don't think any software update, OV Tune included, will make up for the low end power in the 2nd gens. My thoughts.

I've had a 2015 TRD Sport DCLB for eight months now (Auto Trans). So far absolutely trouble free (had 30,500 Km on it when I got it) ... love the vehicle so far. That being said, I test drove a Manual 2nd Gen and a manual 3rd Gen during my search for a "new" one before I happened on the one I have. I'll say this, the 3rd Gen has a much nicer interior than the 2nd Gen... and the 3rd Gen motor requires that you spin it up to higher rpm to get into the power band. I believe this is just a preference thing and something that one would get used to.
I would recommend you try both and see what you prefer. Additionally, although I loved my old '04 1st Gen, the '15 2nd Gen is a nicer driving truck.
    Just my thoughts on it...
    Cheers, Jeff

That vid above pretty much sums up my experience...my '04 was a quick little truck and it could trick you on wet or slippery roads. The '15 lays down its power differently...more lazy if you will, but it clearly has more power, which is especially noticeable on the highway.
