No one knows what the 16 is yet so it's impossible to answer.

Learned this hard lesson with the newer generation tundra (year 2007) that I got rid of 8 months ago. Had a lot of gremlins/annoying quirks in initial years that were later worked out, but not until two-three model years later. Think you'd be more happy with a 2015 in the long run.

I agree with this, the last two years of any make and model is always the best. Especially when you consider Toyota has had a decade to shake this truck down. While 2nd gen Tacomas are great overall, I swear I've read weird quirks about the first two model year runs of our trucks.

Just to name a few items, that were annoyances now remedied.

    -Melting Daytime lights
    - Weak rear springs
    - Wasn't leaking valve covers an early 1GR issue, or am I thinking of another engine?
    - No Bluetooth or aux
-No A-Trac or other traction enchantments other than E-locker on Off-Road and mechanical LSD on sports.
-No offense to pre-2012 owners but I hated the red gauges at night.

As much as I'm anticipating the next Tacoma, I wouldn't be in the market for one again until the end of the 3rd gen models.

Had the same thoughts about the '12 when the '13 was supposed to show a significant change in body style / setup. We still see the same thing each year. Got a '12 when the '13s hit the lot at a very nice price. No one knows if/when they will change anything.

If you wait for the 16, you might as well wait for the 17, and at that rate might as well wait for the 18 hahaha.

    Not enough...
One thing I've learned over the years is that you don't buy a car immediately after a major body/style/component/engine change.

Just buy one if you want one already!!!!!!! The new Tacoma I guarantee will be pretty much the same truck with a new engine and a few changes nothing extreme like the 2014 Silverado. More like the 2014 Tundra. New exterior and interior with the same frame and basic shape.

2016 will be the redesign. Wait until January when they release it if you want confirmation.

I myself find the current Tacoma old feeling, I tested a new limited and it felt outdated. I could not imagine buying one and having it for 5 years, the drivetrain would be a fossils by then.

The new Tacoma will be in another league.

Instead of buying a new 14 or 15 get a used one and in 2-3 years get the new gen after they work out the kinks. This is why I just bought an 09 for 21k that I plan to drive for 3-4 years and then move on to whatever new model tacoma, frontier etc that is best.

I say just wait for the 18', that way Toyota will fix the problems of the diesel, leaking fuel injectors due to the direct injection system, complaints of the lack of torque on the 3.5L gas motor, the independent rear coil system being too soft and sagging again, etc... :D

There's nothing extreme about the new Silverado, it looks just like the 1985 Silverado if you ask me. Chevy doesn't deviate from there conservative styling much. The Silversdo is like the 911 Porsche of the truck world, in that they can't seem to get motivated enough to get away from the same old square design.

Points well taken! Need a new truck sooner than later. 2015 mid to later next year before the 16's hit.

since the tacoma isnt toyota's bread and butter, i cant really see there being any major problems with a new model. it will most likely borrow most of all of its parts from other vehichles, just like it used the motor from the 4th gen runners and the tranny from the runners and tundras, and the technology had been out for a couple years before the 2nd gens hit the market. if the 4.0 isnt back in the 16's, its gonna be the 3.5 out of the highlander which has been around since atleast 06 as it was an option in the rav4 and camery (unless they have replaced that, i know its no longer and option on the rav4) they could drop another transmission in it since they have several to choose from, but nothing new will ever debut in the tacoma. there are plenty of 05's running around with little to no problems other than the temp/compass going out

I would not wait for the 16 model year I would buy now. They hold their value pretty good anyway.
