I can get the tab pulled up with a small Allen wrench but the switch itself doesn't want to come loose. Did anyone else have an issue like this? I don't want to yank on something too hard and end up breaking it.

You don't have that tab pulled out enough to release the switch i believe. Or its not evenly pulled out you know what I'm saying.

Oddly enough, I got the tab up by using a screwdriver and applying light pressure... from the side. Not straight on. Guess it got me that extra micron I needed.

Now, had I actually ordered a 3rd gen switch (and not a 2nd. Doh!) I'd be in business!

I had to create an account to THANK the OP for this mod. You saved me a bundle of $$$!

I was scared of that little clip and gently lifted it with a minimum of problem thanks to your awesome description and photos!

    THANKS again!

Thank you to the OP for the description and pics!

For those that don't have an allen key small enough to get behind the tab...I just bent a paper clip into L shape and used that to get behind the tab. Seemed to work pretty well.

Just did this, thank you for the writeup. Bought mine from the thread linked above.

I had a hard time pulling the tab up, I think the first allen wrench I used was actually too small and wasn't able to lift the tab high enough. I eventually jiggled the stick, while pulling and lifting the tab at the same time and thats what eventually made it pop out.

Edit: What did people do with the switch they took out (the non-intermittent one)? I'm assuming its probably trash, nobody would buy a single one of those right?

The best part of this mod, other than the intermittent part, is that the "mist" is now one function. On the non-intermittent wiper stalk, you had to mist the windshield, then turn on the wipers. WTF, Toyota???!!!

Incidentally, if you Google the part number listed, you get some Ebay and used units for sale, I just bought a used one a few days ago off a 2016 Taco OR... fits and works great.

    Thanks for the writeup, OP!

This is an awesome thread. A brand new switch is $120 buying used isn't even worth it. Seems used sells for just about the same as new, i'll take new over used any day

Are these the same ones that the tacomas can get?

This is a factory switch that comes in the higher model Tacoma with intermittent wipers. Direct plug and play upgrade into the SR model that came with 2 speed wipers. OEM part and super simple upgrade.

Does anyone know if this mod will void the warranty?

No it wont, they probably wouldn't ever even notice it. You're using an OEM plug and play part, no cutting wires or anything. They can't say anything about it.

Buy my wiper switch! Have one brand new in the box, never installed it.
