I just bought one for $39 off a 14 Corolla which I assumed worked (and did work) based on this list of interchangeable parts: https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/toyota~switch~windshield~w~84652-06340.html

The same wrecking yard wanted double the money for one off a Tacoma!

The hardest part was pulling on that center post. I fiddled around with it then decided to bend the end of a thin piece of scrap metal in a vice to make a little puller.57730DBD-AC8E-4759-8F45-487F1816C0E4.jpg

Well hell it's nice I didn't try it then. I wonder if I get the switch from the SR5 that would work.

Anyone looking for a wiper lever check their local junk yards. I picked mine up from one off of a 2016 Corolla paid $25.00 plus tax.

Just thinking... if this works, then what about putting a head light switch that has auto headlights for one that isn't auto?

I just installed one in my 2019 SR and it works great. Good to have a functional intermittent wiper instead of the cheap factory installed one, which wouldn't even activate the wipers with the washer.

Finally after 3 years of using My only fast and faster setting wipers, I just ordered mine LOL. $130 shipped. Im sure it will be a nice upgrade !

Update:: Installed today. Take your time, be careful because its all just plastic. I only needed a flat head and philips screwdriver for tools.

    @moe2o4 thanks great write up

I also waited way too long. What makes it worse is how easy it is to do.

Thanks so much for the instructions on how to do this modification. In my case it took a fair bit of finagling to remove the cover. Without your awesome instructions I might have been convinced there was something else holding it in place and I can easily imagine myself disassembling half the steering column to try to figure it out. Your instructions gave me the confidence to patiently persist until it came free.

Just did this mod on my 2019 SR. Thanks so much to the OP for the write up. Seeing how easy it was to do (no rewiring/sodering, adding switches, etc, it's literally just replacing one part), I don't understand why they even make the option not to have intermittent wipers. Are there people out there that prefer not to have it? Is it cheaper for Toyota to make the stalk without the intermittent option?
I guess it may be the same reason Toyota provides expensive electronics like lane assist and adaptive cruise control on my SR but still require me to unlock my doors with the key.

All manufacturers are like this. Frankly, it's embarrassing.

FYI the Oem foglight mod is pretty simple for the SR as well.

I have a 2018 SR, 4 Cyl that I purchased last July, and noticed after I got it home that it only had two speed wipers!
I just wanted to thank moe2o4, the original poster and others that posted about this modification. I could not have done it without this forum.
    Your help is Greatly Appreciated!

I had zero problems installing the new switch and it only took me 15 minutes.
I just used a very small flat head screw driver to pull up on the center tab from the side (not the end).
Hardest part for me was removing the wire plugs. (Took a while to realize you had to release a tab on the plugs (used same flat head screw driver).
When installing the bottom cover be sure to line up the slot in the cover with the white slot under the dash. Once this was lined up the cover practically snapped its self back together.

Like others here my dealer said that weren't sure how to do this and that I may have to replace the wiper motor, add a relay and change wiring to make this work. I'm not going back to them anymore.

Sounds like your service advisor is new.... Or the tech is new.... o_O

Anyways, nice work man, and good luck at the next dealer. Hopefully they're a little sharper than your previous one

I’m confused. Did changing the wiper switch stalk add intermittent functionality? If so it sounds like Toyota had the featured already wired and the features in the wiper motor assembly but disabled access to the feature by installing a switch that didn’t have the contacts to engage the intermittent circuit. Cool!
