@Jeff Lange might not want to toot his own horn, but he has an excellent axle code thread here.

Cool. Seems like I looked and didn't find in 2019. If anyone finds it, just link it and have mods lock this thread. Thanks

Just because I was curious, not because I have a concern or anything but I checked my compliance label and noticed my axle code is different. Following the table would lead me to believe I have a 8" 3.9 gear setup. I'll have to manually check my ratio out next time it's on the hoist. o_0 it's a 2021 Tacoma trd sport with an MT transmission

Yes it would appear Toyota altered the axle codes at some point. I don’t have the specifics on when/which plant/which codes or why.

I know this thread has been inactive for some time, but I was curious about my axle code and the comments on the forum about all MT trucks having 4.30 gears. Mine is a 2021 trd off-road with a 6 speed MT and has the same code as yours, which contradicts the “all MT have 4.30 gears” statement. Or am I missing something?

It would appear to me that either the meaning of the axle code has been changed, your MT vehicle was built with 3.91 gears or they applied the wrong sticker to your truck.

@tonered , what do you make of it?

The best thing to do here is check RPMs versus speed. See the gearing link in my signature for an example calc.

For example in my Taco with 265/70R17 tires, I am turning 2k at 60mph in 6th.

I would also tend to think that 3.909 gears in an MT would make 1st and Reverse amazingly shitty.

Indeed but a 4.88 re-gear even MORE amazing!

    For you, and that's okay.

I'm quite happy where I am.

How did @mabupa ’s 2021 MT end up with a B07B axle code? (Post #26)

That's a question for Toyota. As long as the gearing computes, I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh. For ATs, 5.29s all day long. Killer 1st gear crawl ratio and good highway gearing.

Not sure about this. Mine shows A04A and contradicts official specs.

Maybe what caused the confusion: "3.909 gears in an MT would make 1st and Reverse amazingly shitty."

I’ll have to check next time I’m on the highway. I ditched the 16” factory off-road wheels and installed a set of the 17” 4runner wheels with same size tires as you, so now I’m curious.
