Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I got one of these letters a few years ago for my 2014 DCLB, so you can see how much of a hurry they are in. I’ve been complaining to the dealer and factory since 2018!

Currently, my repaint estimate is $4,000. All 4 doors are peeling, my roof feels like 320 grit sand paper, there’s no shine to my hood or tops of the fenders, the paint is peeling off of the front fenders under the hood, and I have fade spots on all 4 doors and the bedside where the mirror reflects sun into it. My whole truck needs repainted!

Anyone have an updat from Toyota? I went to their website, entered my vehicle info and nothing comes up. What is the link to the customer service letter and info? I have an affected model, and they never sent me anything.

My 2019 Tacoma started having this same paint issues around the door frame two months ago. I received the initial "recall" notice in October and didn't think much of it since I hadn't experienced any issues. After experiencing the paint flaking off during my routine car wash a few months back I dropped my vehicle off at my local dealership. They brought my vehicle to a bodyshop and verified that the paint defects were likely related however, they stated that I would need to wait for a second letter or notice from Toyota. They advised that Toyota has only acknowledged the issue and have advised that Toyota will accept the cost of repairs, BUT the rollout of the repair process is still "in the works". I was told by the dealership to wait and they would not give me a timeframe but advised that it could be months before Toyota comes up with a gameplan on how to remediate this issue.

I just called the Toyota support line that is on the recall notice, the lady was nice enough to do a three way call with my dealership and together they were able to walk me through what to expect. As far as they were able to tell, Toyota still is figuring out the repair process, however they did note that there might have been some progress as the status of this recall has changed internally on their systems and is now showing a different status. They also stated that these types of repair notices are rolled out at the end of each quarter so its unlikely that they would expect updates around the end of each quarter rather than monthly. In other words, I should call back around end of June, sept, OR December. Who knows how accurate this is, but I figured I'd create an account and provide my experience.

Man as a customer service PR, this sucks to hear how they’re dragging their feet. So I have been thinking of replacing the 16, but now I’m screwed on trying to get a decent price for it until can get it fixed. BTW, looked deeper and LF window and inner fender lip is starting too.

I had posted about super white tacomas a few years ago and the dealer and Toyota agreed to repaint mine. There were issues with the spot welds rusting from under the paint between the cab and bed, they took the bed off and blasted/repainted the welds on the bed. No sure if its directly related or perhaps unrelated to this new issue as shown in pics on recall notice, but just wanted to put this info in this thread as I am sure it will grow as this issue flushes out over time.

I had some spot welds rust on the bed a few months after I bought it. Hasn't gotten any worse in 12 years, so I let it be.

no updates as of yet. The quickest way to get a response/acknowledgement from Toyota is to reach out to them via X (Twitter). This is also a general tip for trying to get a hold of any company. IF you @Toyota on X, their CS team will request you DM them privately. From there you can provide your VIN and they can tell you the progress. Companies hate when you take these type of complains public so I found this to be an easy solution to getting a response. Typically response time has been about 2 days but YMMV.

No - but keep pestering them so that they can get a sense of the urgency from their customers.

There's another thread with the "consolidated paint issues for 040 paint code" FYI.

I sent a follow up DM to Toyota Customer Support on Twitter and this is the response I received:
"Thank you for reaching back out to us. Please know, we are still working to prepare the remedy for this program and we anticipate that this may take several months. We will begin sending the second owner notification letter as soon as the repair for this Customer Support Program is ready."

Consensus is that Toyota doesn’t plan to get this ball rolling as of this year at all. But my question for some; has anyone ACTUALLY gone to the dealer and gotten a real answer or solution with this letter in hand?
I planned on asking the service dept. when I take mine in to get serviced again, but it would help greatly to hear feedback on actual interaction between the dealer and customer.
When I went last, the service manager said that IF Toyota would actually cover it, then they would need the truck for approximately two days for initial inspection, and then return the truck to me with a scheduled return to send off to their paint shop. The paint job would take up to TWO WEEKS and then I’d get it back. Their current estimated time for getting that ball rolling wouldn’t be until January of 2025…
I’ve only went to ONE dealer, Toyota of Temecula, and plan to go to another.

I visited my local dealership in Sunnyvale, CA, a few months ago to address some paint issues with my vehicle. They took my car to their partner body shop for a "paint test." This involved the body shop examining the paint damage to determine if it was covered under warranty and testing other panels with an adhesive to see if the defect extended to the fender.

After the body shop confirmed that the damage was due to a manufacturing defect, the dealership assured me that Toyota would cover the repairs. However, they informed me that the repair plan isn't finalized yet, so I would need to wait. I've also contacted Toyota directly and received the same response—they are still in the "planning" stages of the repair process. They mentioned that a second letter would be sent once the repair plan is complete.

Yeah, it sucks its taken this long, Toyota sent out the original letter almost a year ago. Hoping that we can get some clarity soon.
