Hi there first time posting, toyota repainted all 4 doors and passenger front finder a couple of years ago. Now the driver front finder, a-pilers,roof and gas fill area are peeling ! Toyota just denied my claim today ! Body shops dont want to touch it because any where you mask paint may peel ! I'm going to push them again than i guess were off to court. there is no value in a truck that the paint is like this. Thank you for the space to vent

My driver side rear door has done this around the window. Toyota corporate wouldn't fix, dealer wanted damn near $5k to redo the door and finally found a badass restoration shop that specializes in vintage Land Cruisers that will redo my who door (primer and all) for $1200. Dropping it off in the next week to get done. Rest of truck is pristine at 120k miles.

Obviously it died just as quickly as it came to life.

Nope! Clearly Toyota decided against it.

why won’t Toyota cover it? They just approved mine for repairs. A bunch of us are getting approved over on this thread:

just fyi, i took mine to the dealership last month for them to look at it. apparently, the two painters they usually use are both out of commission so i got to pick my own paint shop (closer to my house). corporate just approved it and i am dropping the truck off next week.

I got a 2nd letter a couple weeks ago with a request to get it inspected and after they sent an estimate to Toyota it was approved for repainting.

Got the approval for mine. Made the appointment for them to take pictures, i made the mistake of walking around and left with a new 24 Tundra Platinum guess paint fix isn't my problem anymore. Out with the old and in with the new.

Updates - I recently got my truck back from the body shop. Here’s the good and bad news.
Good- the support program allows for 9 days of rental coverage. They strip all paint and sand down doors and front fenders and repaint. Truck looks great from side
Bad- they refuse to acknowledge any other problems exist despite evidence of paint peeling in other areas. So if you are like me, the truck looks great from the side but the hood and roof are still a mess haha

Crazy they’re only doing this for white paint rather than acknowledging their clear coat is the issue. I’ve got a black 16 with similar issues under the windows and they refused to even bring it up to Toyota Canada

Walked outside this morning to see the paint bubbled and peeled on the rear passenger window. I have a 2017 and I was hoping with how much I take care of the paint it wouldn’t happen. Time to see Toyota will actually fix this. If not I’m wrapping the truck finally.

I finally got a call saying my truck was eligible for the customer support program to repair the peeling paint on my 2017 tacoma. Dropped it off at Toyota dealership last week and was told it would go to the body shop, get a high pressure wash to expose any weak spots in the paint- and was under the impression repairs would be covered. now I have a quote for $9,600, all spots of peeling were identified and Toyota is refusing to cover anything other than what was listed in that mailer. No luck with corporate, they acknowledge the problem but not willing to fix or authorize any more coverage.

Anyone have similar experience or luck contacting someone else to get this resolved?

I received a letter as well. Very vague.
    Went to my local service rep. He basically said this;
“Yes, we are working on it. I can place you on a waiting list. May be a couple of years before we can get to it. Very overwhelmed . We don’t have a body shop here so we’re subbing it out to a local body shop (lowest bidder) and we’re not happy with the work being done. We’re looking for another body shop. When that happens, it’ll be about3-4 weeks in the shop. Sorry, no loaner.”
this is Toyota! Wtf? It’s obvious they just want customers to say, ohhh, nevermind. Not the Toyota I’m familiar with.
Bought my first one in ‘80. They’ve always been “a step above” other makers. They’ve done everything they can to bury this.
SO disappointing. My ‘18 only has 45k on her and is like brand new. To see the paint falling off of it on a regularly basis makes me sick. Very disappointed in Toyota.

Just got my truck back from the paint repair. They stripped and repainted all 4 doors both front fenders and the sides of of the cab. Looks nice but I still have some peeling on the a pillars and the bed rail near the cab. Shop did a good job and no cost to me.
