Learned today the hard way that well, the factory battery is about 4 years old in a 2016 and in need of replacing.

Got left stranded out at the lake today. Thankfully, I fellow fisherman came along and was able to give me a jump. Drove it straight to O'Reillys and left it running in the parking lot. Nice slow day, they were able to come straight out test the alternator / battery etc. It was the battery, got it swapped for a new one and was back on my way in probably 10 minutes total.

All that just to say, heads up 2016 owners, you may want to make the swap before winter if you haven't all ready!

Most crapped out between 2 and 3 years. Mine is 3 and needs replaced soon.

    Depends on climate and use.

In Alberta we see about 5-6 years off good life.

In Florida you can see 6-24 months if you're lucky.

Also it matters how long the truck sits on the lot prior to purchase.

It is amazing how manufacturers still get away with using such cheap / crap stock replaceable parts, batteries, tires, filters etc.

I hit my ditch light switch the other day and didn't realize it. Couple hours later my neighbor tells me they are on. I went out and got the dreaded "click click click ". I got it jumped and let it run for 40 minutes. Still going holding the charge :fingerscrossed:, so I'll keep rolling the dice.

I replaced mine after a year. I’d rather not have to worry in some of the places I go

I’m closing in at 3 years:oops: I carry my NOCO jump starter in the truck so I’m not too worried about it dying on me.

I’ve yet to have a big problem. Occasionally I get a slow crank but that’s after the truck has been sitting for days at a time

Sounds like a good train of thought, my 16 still has the original battery. I would rather pay the price now while its still warm outside then to change that bitch when its 10 degrees outside. Hadn't thought about it until now,, Thank you.

Stupid question.... Will my head unit maintain all my maintenance info and pre sets long enough to change the battery or is all lost during the process??

Yes, however the idle sometimes needs to relearn. Older vehicles I always clean the throttle plate as a precaution but most 5 year old models don't have a lot of carbon yet.

The radio does keep all info along with the nav for sure.
