Well last year's Tacoma 4 cylinder Auto, Non Pre-Runner came with a 3.58 rear and (4) speeds. This year's is a 4.30 rear with (6) Speeds I believe. Granted lots of additional weight and a higher profile don't help things although it should certainly be better than last years efforts.

Behind the grille and the radiator there is so much room... almost as if an intercooler is meant to fit there. And under the hood... there is so much room.. almost as if pipes and a turbo are supposed to fit there.

LCE sells headers for the 2TR-FE. Just google 2TR-FE LCE headers. Their website says it fits upto 15'. I'm sure it will fit the 16, I just doubt the improvements will be as good since we have variable cams on the intake AND exhaust. Been wanting one my self but I think I'm just going to wait until some figures or something is published on the gains. I also contacted LCE and asked if I could return the headers in the case that it does not fit and they said no so it's definitely a nono. I'll let them do their testing.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I watched the youtube video on the install for the gen 2. Everything looks exactly the same. A person could call the dealer and see if the part number is the same for the 2016 stock exhaust manifold as it is for the 2015.

I read this was also on the 2015 trucks....

    Is this true?

I swear but my but dyno that my 2015 Access cab runs better than my 2012 did.
    Both M/T 4-cyl.

More comparable is the Prerunner 2.7s offered in the second gen, which were 4.10 equipped.

Changes were made to the 2TR-FE engine, begining this year. Compression ratio was raised from 9.6 to 10.2 and now has variable valve timing on the exhaust side making it DUAL VVti.
Incidentally, The same changes were made to the 2TR-FE engine used in the Toyota Hilux overseas for 2016 as well. I believe this is the exact same engine a we have. Which means....we also got teflon coated rod bearings, treated cylinder walls, lighter weight valve springs, reshaped tumble port and combustion chamber. That engine is published at 164 HP at 5200 rpm and 181 foot-lb. torque at 4000 rpm which is 200 rpm higher than last year.
Toyota claims that the HP and TQ are the same as last year...doubt it. If it is then they have detuned it with the ECM. This implies that at any given time they could open the engine up to its true HP. 185 horspower maybe?

I lost my print out of the info. Do a google search for "2016 Toyota Hilux+2TR-FE+redesign"...etc. Keep looking. Toyota did not promote the changes. Also look up "2015 Toyota Tacoma product information" and "2016 Toyota Tacoma product information". This will get you the Toyota pdf specs such as gear ratios, engine specs, aproach angles, drag coef., weights, etc.
