Just picked up a 4 banger, AC, Manual 4x4 this last Saturday. First car I have owned in 16 years of driving with a functional A/C, so I'm pretty excited:) I guess it was also one of 3 manuals left in the state of CA, so I got that going for me...which is nice.

Picked up an SR 4 cyl 2.7L 5 speed 4x4 w/convenience package and the stupid all weather mats this weekend (actually they are not that bad, but I could have bought them later for less or go with weather techs).

This config. is like a unicorn!!! Not many dealers have them.

I haven't really driven it that much, but don't find it lacking for my driving style. My philosophy was to go with the proven engine platform/design and simplicity of the manual (and it cost less as well for the economy minded). Aside from the ugly steel wheels, the SR level is really decked out and I have already ordered the intermittent wiper stalk which is critical in the Pacific NW.

I have had a 1st gen SR5 w/ 4cyl, 4x2 for 16 yrs, so I am used to the Lilliputian engine. It has served me well and never have had a problem, the 2.4L was a champ. The 3rd gen is Gargantuan in comparison to my 1st Gen!

The one thing with the four banger is that you can't really tow anything (maybe a small aluminum boat on a trailer), so that would be one reason to go with a 6 cylinder. Maybe there is better resale value in the 6 cylinder, who knows?

Should I share what I paid?

IF I get a tacoma for my next truck, a manual SR will be it. Good choices guys.

$25,500 SR w/convenience and dumb mats. That includes truck and destination. I bought outside of King county so I get a break of $300 from the Seattle area tax claws.

The tax and lic/processing is hurtful but I guess the state has to keep the lights on. I really gave it some thought and comparison to the other trim levels and engine choices and it made sense to me-but I don't think there is any right or wrong-whatever suites your needs or wishes.

I pull a 20' fishing boat on a double axle trailer at highway speeds without issue. The surprising thing was the Tacoma brakes better than my previous full size Silverado when pull the boat.

20 footer on a double axle? With a 4 banger.... Holy cow! That engine must be workin like a rented mule. Although, having said that, I myself pulled a 19 foot fiberglass bass boat with a 175 HP V-6 outboard all over Texas with a 93 Ford Ranger, 3.0 V6, 4 speed auto. Momentum on the hills was crucial. Hit the bottom of that next hill at 85 mph, may only be doing 45 at the top, but it always went over! I believe that engine was only 115 hp, something like that. So if you wanna go fishin, just make it work!

That's a four door truck. I thought you could only get that in an access cab. 4X4 or prerunner?

Nope pretty sure you can get the sr with any cab, engine, and drive with an automatic. You can only get a manual with access cab 4wd and 4cyl though.

I'd be all over a quad cab 4X4 auto with the 2.7.
