You're off by about a thousand pounds... 5600 - your payload will give you a good idea of what it weighs.

Actually that was my planning which is giving my 4 banger to my kid as his first truck, it looks great but he can't be doing anything too stupid (I hope).

4 cyl power complainers should re-enroll in drivers ed to learn when and how to select S4 and S5 to keep the revs up.

It doesn't need more power. You need to lower your expectations.

Its among the slowest, if not the slowest, vehicle currently sold. I think the power argument is pretty valid. The only reason IMO to own one is cost (purchase and overall ownership cost).

Pickup bolt on performance parts from LC Engineering. I had full boltons from them in my first gen 2.7. Made a huge difference. you could also supercharge if you really want an upgrade and have the money. URD SC Kit Lots of options since the 2.7 has been around forever.

While it probably goes with your cost of ownership statement, the 2.7 could be the most reliable engine still being made.

Is it really valid? Isn't that why Toyota also offers the Tacoma with a V-6? If someone buys a vehicle that doesn't meet their needs, that is not the fault of the vehicle.

Incorrect. I was off by only 780 lbs on the unloaded weight. I never claimed to have a perfect memory lol.

Curious if your payload matches up? What is it? It should be at least 1601 if your truck is under 4k pounds.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
It’s fine. Relax, before you know it it will be the year 2036. It’s like living in slo-mo, only slower. I haven’t passed another vehicle since April of 2010.

Gear it down. 4.88-5.29 depending on trans and tires. My stock 5 lug 5 speed on tiny donuts like 4.30 but on 31" 235/85-16 it needed 4.88s. My current 22 auto has 5.29 on 265/75-16. Stock 4.30 was useless. Again, it prob needed 4.88 just on the stock 2WD rubber.

No my sticker payload is 1500 lbs, not 1620 lbs as in the chart. I’m certain everyone’s sticker payload is less than in the chart for their model. I suspect, but not certain that the difference is the factory tables payload is dry weight while the sticker payload includes fuel as most payload ratings appear to include, per google-fu.

On the bright side, the 4 cylinder will last a long longer and is easier and cheaper to maintain. Also the 4 develops its torque 800 rpms lower than the V6.

Payload is the difference of GVW (5600) and your trucks actual weight. So yours weighs 4100 fueled up. Math checks out if you do 20 gallons at 6 pounds per gallon.

Yes if you consider only 20 gallons, capacity is listed at 21.1 gallons.

In any case what I was saying no to was your earlier post:
    0246B75D-E353-479E-9632-3C7911DD642F.jpg
The actual payload per my sticker is 1500 lbs not 1601. The 1500 lbs payload rating on the sticker includes fuel as I stated. It’s what you can carry when fueled up (fuel weight deducted from the dry curb weight rating in the tables).

When I stated my Tacoma was the lightest of the models and posted the tables, the table curb weights appear to use the dry weights. It was for comparison of the models weights.

I've got a 16' ACLB with the 2.7 and AT. I did the LCE long tube header and while there was a gain it wasn't huge. Got a tune and that REALLY helped out on the low end gears but not so much up top. Took to shifting into S6 from go and it makes my highway cruising stay in 6th mostly. I average around 22mpg and spend most of my time on the highway @ 68 -72. Chris@KDMax says he has a new tune for the 2.7 but we haven't been able to get together yet.

    Cheers,

    Doc
