Glad you love your Tacoma. Lots of folks do not for the same reasons that have been cited on this forum hundreds of times. FYI, I do not have a lead foot, I live in MI which is pretty flat, and no—it was not a windy day that caused 12mpg—-it is a fucked up engine/trans combo.

The other mid sizes perform about the same, check the Colorado Forum, 10 -12 MPG while towing in the gas engines. Toyota does not care, why??? Towing requires power, power requires gas. Trucks never ever did get good gas mileage because they were, wait for it....TRUCKS... And now all of a sudden they are expected to get Prius mileage.

Also Toyota's sales have been outstanding on this "terrible truck" that alone brings deaf ears. The twins were supposed to dethrone the Tacoma and failed, now we will see what the 10 speed AT Ranger will do.

Thousands of more owners have no complaints. Tacoma's have had basically the same towing habits and capacity for almost 15 years. Dunno what to tell you other than to search cl for a Subaru I guess.

I have a 2018 Tacoma and my girlfriend has a 2018 4Runner. They are both TRD offroads mine is a double cab. We have raced on multiple occasions. Hers will get me by a fender for about a1/8th mile then I will come around her. They are very close. The gas mileage is also very close. I’m not to sure what everyone is complaining about so much. I live at 5500ft and just have to switch to ETC on the highway and the tranny works as expected. I drive on normal mode the rest of the time

I just purchased a 19 DC 4v4 Off Road AT. The funny thing is, I find that it shifts fine (test drove many 18s and they didnt) but now I can perceptibly feel the engine changeover from Atkinsson to Otto when I give it around 50% gas.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
I leave mine in S and shift from 3rd to 4th and back and forth in town .... really used to it now at 30 months old and 22,000 miles.

Of the dozen Toyota trucks of all types that I have owned ... this little SR5 ... I have kept the longest and maybe it's the best of all of them.

I really miss the pillar grab handle on the driver's side ... but that is it.

FWIW ... If you catch the transmission at a bad place, it seems to take forever to power up ..... but, if you catch it at the right spot, it pops rather nicely.

I have noticed that Toyota/Lexus is using this 3.5L in many of the Lexus models now ... all the way up to the 500 series with over 400 HP.
