This is a truck after all. If you want something smooth shifting, get a Cadillac.

I have the same problem. Its not about smooth shifting, its about frequency. If you turn the cruise control on the truck shifts on every little grade, its very annoying and completely different from any vehicle I have ever driven. I drive the same freeway to work every day. If I use the cruise control my truck shifts from 6th to 5th and back a dozen times in 20 miles. With cruise control off it doesn't shift out of 6th at all. I called the dealer about it and was told that's the way it is, learn to like it.

Your definition of a trip is a lot different than mine. With your definition, on my wife's Camry Hybrid, we get a trip average of 97 mpg (driving from top of Pikes Peak down to Colorado Springs.) IMHO a trip is a journey with a starting point and an ending point...not a segment of a trip where you go downhill.

I commute 30 minutes everyday .On the way in Iv'e gotten 30 mpg because much of it is downhill. On the way back I usually get about 22 unless i drive conservatively. I consider a trip to be every time you start the engine, drive somewhere and stop it. I do have the 4x4 btw.

My ram shifted like butter and never felt like it was hunting for gears it was a diesel granted, but It seems like I'm not the only one with concerns. They do make smooth shifting trucks

That ZF 8spd in the Ram is an awesome combo with the diesel, why did you trade it?

Is this a real issue? Or just a 'real' issue on this forum.....?

Only reason was I was scared.I keep hearing how expensive the emission system is to fix. I'm a high miler and didn't want to be stuck in limp mode 2 hrs from home. It had 60k on it when I traded it. Absolutely the most beautiful truck to drive for commuters. Quiet, shit load of torque. Sad to see it go but I needed the proven reliability of these tacos

There is a couple of threads out there talking about it. I know it bothers me. I actually spoke to my dealership today about it and he said to just use sport mode. Seems better. Not perfect Imo. All I have to really compare it to in a truck is the ram 8 speed and I can tell you that tyranny is amazing...again, imo

I am NOT backing off any of my previous comments regarding the transmission in the way it feels but in the last two days the truck has seemed to come alive and drive almost 100% better.I'm actually enjoying it for the first time since I've owned it. the main thing that makes me happy is that I'm not thinking about what the transmission is doing I'm just driving the truck and its performing I don't know why these trucks do this but hopefully it stays just like this and I think I can be happy with it...

I find the same thing. Some days when I back out of my driveway. All is good out in drive and it hesitates then engages and jolts. Also find that coming up to a stop or going slow the truck jumps or surges slightly. Almost like when ax engages and disengages. However it's been in the 50's and I've stayed away from the AC

I've had my 2016 4x4 double cab limited for a week now and have 450 miles on it. The lugging was so bad I thought the dealer put bad gas in. I used that gas up and put highest grade in with no improvement.

The truck in town is horrible. I'll be driving at 35mph and it shifts to 6th gear and RPMs drop to about 1200 and its struggling to drive, extremely sluggish. In town the gears are constantly shifting and always shifts to 6th, even as low as 25mph.

I've tried the ECT power but haven't noticed a difference.

On the highway using cruse control it will shift to 5th gear for the slightest change in road elevation. It shifts even when I can't tell in the road why it needs to shift.

I came from a 2012 4x2 double cab and am hating this one dream video not experience. I'm really regretting this purchase and wishing I had my 2012 back.

If there's not a fix for this soon I'll be looking at something else. This is my 4th Tacoma and worst driving experience of the four.

I absolutely hate vehicles that are constantly searching for gears. How does the 2016 act while towing or hauling, is it even worse?

Just leave it in Sport Mode and shift yourself. Well we asked for better gas mileage so they gave us a 6spd. Manual tranny is available to. And last it's a learning computer so the shifting will improve with time.

Leave it in sport, it will shift better, mileage won't be as good, though.
