Thanks for the update. Nice thing about doing the troubleshooting yourself you can better direct the shop on what they need to pay attention to. It also makes it clear that you have a good understanding about your truck. Less likely to get screwed around in the end.

Yep, no doubt. Now hopefully they do their part and don't screw this up.

My 2021 says it takes R134a.
Are you sure you should be putting R1234yf in it?

Looks like you found the issue. Awesome news

I believe it might depend on where the truck was built. The sticker inside the hood of mine says R1234yf and the R134 fitting doesn't fit on the fill port. Mine is a Texas built truck if that helps. I'm assuming all bound for U.S. sale had to be R1234yf.

I'm not sure if mine was Texas or Mexico built. It was originally sold in Texas and then traded in and I bought it here in Texas. Could be mine was Mexico assembled. I'll have to check that, you got me curious now.

Yeah, I'm not really sure. I'd think any vehicle meant to be sold here in the U.S. had to be R1234yf by 2021.

Assembled in Texas your vin starts with a 5. Assembled in Mexico your vin starts with a 3. My Texas assembled Tacoma uses R1234yf.

But yeah, the fittings aren't interchangeable. You'd have to buy an adapter to use the wrong one.

Update: Talked to the dealer today. Warranty has approved the repairs, just waiting on parts which should arrive Wednesday at the earliest. I'll post an update once it's done to resolve this thread for good.

I feel for you having the dash pulled most trucks are never the same after this type of repair. Hopefully you will get a very conscientious technician who will make sure everything is done properly.

It better be, or I will be hounding them until it's remedied.

Another quick update on this. Just got the call from the dealership. Evaporator is replaced, truck is ready to pick up. I owe $100 total (deductible). I will update further when I pick it up if the issue is fixed and if there are no other issues found.

Last update on this. Dealer replaced the evaporator which was completely covered by my extended warranty. They didn't charge me the $100 deductible, I'm assuming because they charged me $100 for my initial visit where they diagnosed nothing.

So far so good. I didn't notice any damage to the dash or anything else. A/C is working and everything else seems to be working correctly. Hopefully things continue this way.

Good news! Yes, they applied your diagnostic fee towards your deductible.
