I'll probably get the inevitable responses just due to the forum I'm posting on, but I really am going back and forth on this decision and can't decide what I want to do.

I currently have a 2016 Inferno Sport AC with 6spd. My only issue is lack of room on the inside of the truck (cab space) and sometimes a lack of creature comforts. But mainly the space.

I am considering making the jump to a 2016 4Runner. I have an 8ft trailer that basically gives me the bed space I need if I ever do need it.

Honestly, I just feel like the 4Runner has the potential to be a better fit longer term then the Tacoma. My Nieces just visited and well, needless to say they didn't fit all that well. Longer trips I assume the 4Runner would be a little more comfortable then the Tacoma?

What am I missing or overlooking? Again I love my truck, if I keep her I won't have a single issue with that. I just am trying to think long term. I trade cars like people do baseball cards and I'm a bit tired of doing that. I'd like to think the 4Runner would be a long term solution to my short and long term needs.

Have any of you guys gone from one to the other, either direction and what are your thoughts?

I think my DC is kind of tight in the back for passengers so your AC has be horrendous in comparison. You should drive one and see if you like it.

I had a 2016 4 runner for several days as a loaner. The interior is very dated compared to ours and the space is about the same. Suspension is softer with more body roll and dive (even compared to an OR).

Everyone clamors about the 4.0 but extra amount of bottom end torque is not worth the trade off of the top end torque we have. If you're looking for space, go for a bigger vehicle than a 4runner.

Nobody has regretted going from a taco to 4Runner that I have seen. Test drive one, see if it fits you better than the taco, then decide.

Sorry, I just get aggravated when some of these guys want to beat their chest because they've traded for a 4 Runner.

    Nobody cares on this forum.

I recently drove a 4R Trail Premium with KDSS. It was a much better driving vehicle than the Taco. It was a good bit quieter as well. I would not say it felt like it had much more power than the Taco, although it shifted more predictably. Still underpowered as a whole.

Now room wise, way more! My sister-in-law has a 2010 SR5 and I've always been impressed with the amount of space the second row and cargo area has. If you need more space for kids, I'd say it is a great size.

Now I also feel that it is a bit behind the times and personally would not buy one until they update them. The interior of our Tacos is way better laid out and the technology is much more current. The info screen on the 4R looks like something out of the early 90's. The steering wheel buttons don't make sense, no push button start unless you get the limit, etc. These may not matter much overall but to me, spending that much money, I want it to feel like it's up-to-date since I would probably drive it for 10 years.

    Hope that helps you.

No sorry needed. I just want to get something I'm content with. 3 years ago I had an FJ -> Corolla (just bought a house thought it might be more efficient) -> My Tacoma, just bought a 370z (which is really not practical) and want to get something that gets the reliability of the Tacoma, I own the trailer, and some more space on the inside makes a lot of sense to me.

We'll see. I truly appreciate all the help regardless!

You have a very very unique vehicle in form of Access Cab TRD Sport manual. I would keep it and buy an older used model 4Runner 2004 or older.

Has everybody forgotten they make a Pro 4Runner?

    Gotta say, it's a hell of a " mini van "

nobody should torch you for getting a vehicle that suits your needs. Your staying with a Toyota and whatever you decide make sure it makes you happy

I had a 16 TEP, yes more comfortable, way more room, cushier ride, and felt more luxorious all around. Also very dated in comparison. I jumped on the Taco because the redesign is fresh and I figured I can ride it a year or 2 before the new HoeRunner comes out. My 2 cents for you, if you're going to jump ship, wait for the redesign it's probably for MY 18.

I had a 2013 Tacoma Prerunner. A lady hit me and after getting it fixed I traded it for my current 4Runner.

There are really only two scenarios I miss the truck. The first is carrying the mountain bikes. Putting them in the back of the truck was very easy. Same for my enduro motorcycle. In both of those cases, there are easy hitch solutions.

Like you, I have a trailer. So ALL other scenarios where I can't fit stuff in the 4Runner cargo area, or the truck bed for that matter, the trailer hauls whatever I need. I have a top of the market Diamond C 2PSA 8x12 with dual bi-fold ramps. It's primary purpose is to haul our ATV's. It weighs a little over 1100 pounds so with the ATV's at 2x750 pounds, we are well below Tacoma or 4Runner tow limits.

I have a 2016 4Runner Trail Premium (now called the 2017 Off Road Premium). It's 4x4 and has all the bells and whistles. I bought it instead of the 3rd gen Tacoma because I decided I didn't want to risk nearly 40k on a new generation product. I watched this forum and the early adopter reports for nearly a year before I made that decision.

It was a good decision. The interior is very nice and roomy. I don't give a shit about the latest and greatest tech. This is coming from an alpha geek. The ride is stellar. The Trail Premium is very nice and quiet on the freeway. Yes, the nose dives when you brake hard, and a little rollee in corners, but I'll address that later with better shocks. At the moment I have the factory rubber so although it has 4x4, I can get stuck pretty easily if I am not careful. When I burn a few more miles I'll swap to some better all terrain rubber.

The 4Runner is made in Japan and the tolerances and quality is certainly evident. I'd recommend looking carefully at the models and features. I would have been fine with the SR5 Premium, but in the end, I liked the darker interior of the Trail, and the added 4x4 features should come in handy on cross country adventures.

I will consider another Tacoma in the future, but until Toyota addresses the new gen issues fuck it. I would not buy one right now. If I really needed a mid sized truck, it would be a 2015 Tacoma. Lots of low mileage Tacos on the market.

Why not buy a used SUV for the cheap and keep the TACO?
