I ran mine starting with the unit behind the Driver's tailight (high n dry) and ran the wire mostly along or within the frame rail all the way to the battery. The Curt included power wire is heavier duty and looks like it will hold up, and if not it would be an easy repair anyway. Of course, zip tied and away from anything spinning or sharp.

I just did this to my truck. I used the Hopkins 40985 and the OEM connector that goes on the bumper. I picked that up for $65 on ebay (I had ordered it before I saw the 40975). I do a lot on my truck but wasn't comfortable messing with the electrical, so I took it to a local hitch place to have the wiring done. He made a custom harness for me including t-connectors for the lights. He ran all the wires under the truck and through the cab to the battery (the wiring under the truck was wrapped in conduit tubing). Got three different fuses installed one for the trailer lights, one for the electric brake and one for the trailer battery (going to be towing a light travel trailer). He also installed a regulator/computer (may not be saying this right) to manage to voltage on the wires. Now I have 7 and 4 pin connector on my truck. Will take some pics and upload later.
