Yea it's happened to me about 2 times if my memory serves me correct and I haven't hit 1,000miles yet just reached 950.

Thanks for your diligence in reporting this problem. I really want to like the new Tacoma's but these transmission quirks are a concern. I plan on at least test driving the new 2017 Canyon when they hit dealerships. I'm not sure if they will be much better as I think they're suppose to have an 8 speed auto trans.

If you don't like how the Tacoma shifts, you are going to hate the 8 speed. Up down up up down up down down down up down up down down up up up

If it did it every time every gear, then yea, I would be like wtf. I'm fairly certain my pos 2nd gen does it also, once in a great while, just don't notice it I guess. If it bothers you that much, then go go go, tell the dealer how your trans is so messed up...

It's not normal for any other vehicle I've ever owned and it's not pleasant. it shouldn't be considered the new norm nor should it be considered acceptable for a quality well-built and well-designed vehicle of any make or model

I would drive them all. The Ridgeline is very nice also. The Tacoma is a nice truck, but I may not make the same decision if I had to do it again.

They know. Believe me. The master tech is a great guy by the way. He has been a great support from day one.

Yes, my truck does this as well, and I have stock size tires. The random hard shift into 1st is actually more annoying to me... I'm sure it is normal too, although I've never driven another vehicle that does it.
