Hey all - a 2016 FINALLY landed at my local dealership - Barcelona Red, double-cab short bed SR and got it out for a test drive. I'm going for the OR or Sport MT - but this was my first experience. Couple of thoughts for the crowd:

    • Red is really nice. It's actually a bit closer to maroon and really similar to my 89 taco.
    • Dark grey wheels look great on the SR - didn't expect that
    • Interior is a 100% improvement in fit and finish. Does not feel cheap - even the basic touch-screen was impressive, good sound, etc. C up holders everywhere.
    • I really liked the seating - but then again I did in my 89 too. Tons of headroom (no sunroof) and I'm 6'. Seating felt "tighter" than older models to me - but still very comfortable. Addition of lumbar support is awesome.
    • truck is QUIET on the highway. Even my wife was impressed. I previously drove a 2012 and it was loud. This was about as quiet as our 2011 Honda Pilot - and this might be quieter.
    • Drove about 4 miles on concrete highway seams at 60-70. That condition is loud to start, but the truck managed it well, surprisingly well. Handled bumps on the highway really well. Well mannered in general over speedbumps and the like.
    • Acceleration sounds like a truck - nice growl but not too much,
    • The AT definitely hunts for gears at highway speed with minor changes to the pedal. Upper pedal response is underwhelming - step on it and it goes for sure. The ECT helps some with acceleration, but the semi-manual is where the fun is. I will say that I'd been wavering a bit on MT vs. AT until I drove the auto and now I'm all in on the manual.

When you say the word Barcelona, make sure you use the Castilian dialect. Barcelona is correctly pronounced "Barthalona"

What? You think only "young people" buy Tacoma's?:D

Back to the OP. The red is ok. I tend to like the lighter colors.

Color representation on those pics are a bit off but i:t does look a lot better in person though. Think the black flares on the OR help break up all of the red. Here's mine.

I saw this color in person and it looked great! The color is lighter than I expected. It has some fine white pearl mixed in. The color looked dark from some angles and lighter strait on. Looks much better in person to me.

The red is growing on me. Weird. I actually have always been into white for trucks

Regarding the OPs post, that's the first '16 I've seen with that rim style. Bet it would look good with OR tires. Also, the truck is completely debaged. Do SRs not come with standard Tacoma badging?

I tell ya Sam, pictures of your truck are starting to sway me towards the Barcelona red. That is a great looking truck.

Sam have you been able to compare the Barcelona red on your 16 to a 2015? The shade of red on the 16 seems to be different from the 2015's I've seen. The 2015 in Barcelona I saw today looks more burgundy/maroon than red.

Actually guy at the next building has a gen2 Barcelona Red and it looks darker. I was expecting a darker red but was pleasantly surprised when I pulled up to it on the lot. When the suns not on it, it is close to what I was expecting. I think it has a very light pearl in the clear coat as the color pops on the fenders in the sun.
