Your right. If he doesn't have something to post, then he will shut up, hopefully.

Just change your postcode, I usually do 90001 as they are bound to have everything. Then away you go.

I can get the page up. But still won't let me do a build.

Yeah... still not working... but now I see more inventory listed in the local dealers and finally showing OR 4x4s!! I will call to make sure those are at the dealer and not in-transit.

EDIT: Nevermind... I see the available date on the search. No 4x4 OR listed as available until October...

hm, I can see the 2016 on the main page. When I click build, it then shows the 2015. Once I click build again and input my zip code, I can then build a 2016, but only in 2wd configuration unless I choose Off Road. The SR, SR5, and Sport only lets me choose 2wd. I'd be perfectly fine with 4wd OR because that's what I want, but anybody else having strange configurations like that?

Yeah... it is not working correctly... Or, because the system its based on inventory availability, it is only pulling 4x2 because that is what you have available in your area...

ahh makes sense. I've never really looked around too much on the build sites. Always just checked local dealers sites to see what inventory they have. They seem to have the Quicksand OR 4wd I wanted at least. May consider it once the hype goes down.

Do any other manufactures take this approach on their build pages? From what I've seen most others let you build and package a vehicle to your specs so long as the packages/models are compatible. It seems to me to be much more consumer friendly to give potential customers the ability to build fully the vehicle of their choice to their own preferences. It seems that some people might unknowingly think that certain models cannot be equipped certain ways - and ultimately shop other makes - due to the fact Toyota's BYO is based on inventory only.

I really hate that Toyota does this... I like the build apps that lets me build whatever I want....not based on whatever they have avaialable... Toyota's build app lacks fuctionality, imho...

the build page is based on what your region is selling based on your zip code input. some regions will not carry certain models/packages/options.

Right, but that's not the way it should be. What other manufacturer does this?

I don't know... every other manufacturer that I bought from has a build app that let's you configure the car with the options you want (while it also checks for conflicts to avoid building something that is not feasible)...and then it goes and searches for matches and list them based on % of match to what you have built...

The really good ones even shows the changes as you update the list of options... so you get a better view of what you car will look like with the selected options...
