its called stream lining and less variation within the model lineup.

that why the domestics have 10k+ different variations of just 1 truck.

specialize in a small set of vehicles, not a jack of all :)

I can imagine an engineer trying to get widget A to work with 100 different variations of an optioned truck, must be a nightmare.

Right, so with the domestics I can build what I want. So you're telling me Toyota is the only one (in your mind) that has it all figured out?

Almost all other companies do it... so it is not an issue of complexity since Toyota does not have as many individual options as the other car companies. The technology has been avaialable for many years and developers know how to use it well...

It is a business decision from Toyota to not provide a build app like that... I guess that in their mind, they move inventory better if they limit the online app to that available inventory next to the customer. They force you to go to the dealer if you want to buy a truck with specific options not in inventory...

Site is useless for me. No 16's in my neck of the woods and won't be for a few more weeks so I can't even build one. Kinda sucks.

Exactly the kind of crap I'm talking about. A potential customer should be able to build what they want no matter where they are and regardless of inventory. Customers want the information and to see what their future truck could look like and about how much it might cost - without having to dig through forums.

no they haven't figured it out, they just have less variation. the domestics have so many different options, its confusing and have more points of failures.

no one complains how Honda does it, they have even less options to choose from.

The argument isn't over variation, options, amount of either or lack thereof. The argument is over information. Being able to build a vehicle to the exact specs you want so long as it is a possible build from the manufacturer.

I can't seem to find the power seat option/package. I think the site is still buggy.
