I don't know if anyone has responded to you via a PM, but if I recall (I got rid of my 2016 POS edition Tacoma) the plastic, chrome strip at the top of the shifter boot "unsnaps/unhooks" from the shift knob. The shift knob then unscrews like the past generation Tacos.

I assume the TRD knob you ordered will have a small "groove" at the bottom so the plastic, chrome strip at the top of the shifter boot can "snap/hook" back onto the knob.

If that is the case simply screw your new knob on until tight then snap the shifter boots plastic, chrome strip onto your knob and you're all set.

You went from a 2016 POS Tacoma to a POS 98 escort?

Got a like for this post so I thought I should update.

I no longer own this Tacoma.

That being said I had purchased some Play-Doh from Walmart and was going to insert it into the open area around the shifter to create a template for the shift pattern and open area around the shift lever. I was then going to take this template to a local machine shop and have them cut out a custom billet aluminum piece, containing a shift pattern channel, that would fill the gap. I was then going to attach said aluminum piece to console using some sort of adhesive.

But *sigh* such was not to be. I reinstalled the shift boot prior to selling that tub back to a dealership.

Yea, I know. Probably one of the dumber (and there have been MANY) moves I have made. Glad to be rid of the Tacoma, but this Escort ZX2 is an even worse POS. I'm having issues with the seller on this thing now. Claims the timing belt was "brand new" and yet the car dies at anything below 2,000 rpm. I am taking to an auto mechanic within a couple of days and I'm sure I'll discover the timing belt is probably the original timing belt. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Hopefully it is something simple, and not the timing belt.

Awesome!! The TRD PRO shifters are available on eBay if anyone was trying to find them, I called about 3 dealerships that said they can't get them yet before I found them on eBay, the skid plate is also on eBay, I also want the TRD pro grill, but no luck yet, one dealership said they may be able to order it as soon as next week!
