2016 chassis frame differences?

    Sup fellow Tacoma owners
I have a few questions on the 2016 Tacoma chassis frames. Do any of the 2016 models have a completely straight frame rail? I have a 2016 Tacoma SR 2wd Double Cab that has a reinforcement plate welded in place at the front of the frame rail per pic below (pic of passenger side). Pic shows the first two mounting holes (holes are 6" apart) for installing running boards, sliders, etc. Is this the norm or are there other 2016 frame variations without this reinforcement?

I am under the impression Toyota used two different frames prior to the redesigned 2016 models. 2015's had one frame for the 2wd trucks and a different/beefier one for the 4wd trucks. From what I have read on the internet the 2016 trucks are supposed to use the same frame across the 2wd/4wd platforms in an effort to simplify production. This redesigned frame for 2016 is supposed to be based on the 2015's beefier 4wd frame. Is this the case? First time Tacoma owner so I have no experience with the older models.
    thanks

I believe the two different designs were identified by the wheel bolt pattern. 5 lugs had one frame and 6 lugs another. Don't know about the extra reinforcement. I was under the impression it was mostly different suspension in the front. The x-runner was probably the most reinforced frame and it was/is a 2wd.

There's a guy on here that converted his 2wd 2nd gen to 4wd and i don't recall frame modifications being necessary.

For 2016, there is only 6 lug. No 5 lugs anymore.

The changes that I have seen between Gen2 and 3 are those support plates, the middle body mount, and the transmission crossmember braces. They also went to high strength steel and changed the coating process. The frames should be the same 2wd to 4wd now as you said to simplify manufacturing.

Thanks for the replies thus far
I bought some bolt on parts that do not bolt on so I am just trying to determine if there are variations in the 2016 frames or if I received parts for a 2015 chassis.

Stuff I received is for a completely straight frame so it will not bolt up properly because of the reinforcement plate on the front of the chassis frame. If all of the 2016 trucks have this reinforcement plate/same frame than I received the wrong stuff.

Are you trying to install nerf/slider bars?? The 2015 bars will fit "with some modification". I'm pretty sure due to the new reinforcement plate.

Regarding nerfs I called 2 Toyota dealers. Each gave me a part number for factory nerfs. One dealer gave for a 2015 and the other for a 2016. Same exact nerfs. Bought mine at realtruck and listed as both 2nd and 3rd gen. Bolted right up in 15 minutes. That was for an access cab.

I heard the 3rd gen 2wd and 4wd are different. I'm trying to mount a 4wd sliders on the drivers side but there are some brake lines right in front of the middle mounting hole:annoyed: (left hole in picture)20171127_120537.jpg

Easy fix - bolts head goes on brake line side / nut out. As well loosen the clips holding the brake lines and Carefully bend them away from bolt head. - been there done that
