Off topic here, but do any of you follow motogp? I can't find a tv listing for it. Are they not broadcasting the races in the US this year?

It should be on FS1 again this year but it looks like Qatar is only on beIN for whatever reason.

 

I bet the Qatar one has to do with $$. I bet beIN is part owned by oil money.

Sky is great. It's all I watch now, even though I didn't mind the NBCSN guys all that much.

 

I don't have/get Sky, so I "settle" for NBCSN. They're not.

"Third practice will take on extra significance this season as the results will be used to define who gets knocked out if multiple drivers cannot complete flying laps in the first part of qualifying.

"When we start qualifying, the drivers are arranged in P3 order," said Whiting.

"Whoever is at the bottom of the list at the seven-minute point, whether they have set a time or not, will go."

Should a number of drivers not set a time in Q2, eliminations will be based on where they finished in Q1. The same applies for Q3.

If a driver does not set a laptime at any point during qualifying, they will be outside the 107 per cent cut-off."

 

I'm going to have to wait and see on this new setup. It sounds interesting, but could also cause a cluster f$%^#%$k. I was ok with how it was before. I also heard flying laps do not count once time runs out, so if you are on a flyer and time expires, too bad.
I also fully expect Mercedes to still have the best single lap pace by a good margin. Race pace may no be as far ahead as it was though.

Another thought, say they go out and set an upper grid place when time starts, they will go to the pits. Then when time and positions start to expire they will want back on track to set a time further up the grid, about the same time others are trying to make the cutoff. I can see lots of traffic issues occurring.

 

Thats right , the only flying laps allowed to be completed and count are when there is 2 cars left for P1 and P2 in the last 90 second segment

Quite honestly I thought qualifying was one of the things that didn't need any tweaking
