all things being equal, I don't want mechanical issues deciding the Championship, I want a driver to make the difference

 

OK , hard to argue with that , but what bugs me this year , and I'm not specifically referencing your posts , is that lots of people are like " Rosberg is only winning because Hamilton has had reliability issues " when I don't remember over the last couple seasons people saying the same about Hamilton when Rosberg suffered lots of reliability problems . Even British super homer Hamilton fans Sky F1 said they had been guilty of that and praised Rosberg's driving starting through the end of last season and into this one .

So while I agree with your above post , reliability plays a role every season

The only Mercedes engines grenading this year are in Hamilton's car. That could be a conspiracy, or it could be the guy who pushes all those buttons on that fancy steering wheel. Never ascribe to malice, yada yada.

I think Hamilton is the best pure talent on the grid. When he went to Mercedes they moved to the front row. Verstappen may have more talent but at the moment he doesn't have the gravitas to put it to use. I think he's in deeper water than he should be at this point in his career but obviously I'm in the minority. Nico is winning on determination and it's impressive to see. But he's also made several bonehead moves this year, including punting Kimi in Malaysia. He might win the championship, and good for him if he does. But has no grace.

I will have to disagree with this one. He's a talented driver, probably top 5 and maybe top 3, but I don't think he's the best current driver.

I mean do you really think he is better than Kimi?

 

I still think Alonso is the best driver.

 

In the end it all really comes down to the car, almost every driver on the circuit has the skill to be number 1. Rating which driver is the best on the grid is really up to opinion. You would never know unless everyone drove completely identical cars.
