Can anyone say with certainty that the third gen frame is the same as the second gen frame? I thought I read somewhere that Toyota "strengthened" it but that may just be the additional braces people have reported. I know it looks the same, but does anyone know if Toyota spent some more money on improving its rust resistance through its composition ?

It would be surprising if they kept the existing frame from the second gens after all the rust issues those trucks had/have. There is plenty of speculation on this but does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

The 1st gens have frame rust issues, the 2nd gens have frame rust issues. Don't be surprised if the 3rd gens have it.

Only time will tell if it's been fixed on the 3rd gen.

I already coated the entire underside of mine with Fluid film and plan on doing it twice a year and all my suspension and bolts to keep away as much corrosion as possible. It was a very dirty job sliding around under the truck spraying everything including myself.
I had a 2000 tacoma 4x4 that ended up being bought back by Toyota cause it failed. It was nice after 10years of owning they paid me 150% of its value. I hope it doesnt happen on this one

How many labor hours are there in a frame swap?

It would be awesome to have someone pull the frame, galvanize it, and reinstall.

FWIW, toyota did use a new frame treatment method for 3rd gen as well as strengthened with more high strength steel.

I sprayed all my bolt points and welds with fluid film. Will do it again in a few weeks and see if there's any rust starting. I've had my truck since Sept 15 so it's been thru a lot of salt and off road/mud/stones/gravel a bit already.

I guess we shall see if it's truly normal after a few winters. Other Toyota models like the 4Runner and Land Cruiser don't have that issue.

4runners have just as many problems around here, Toyota just isnt doing anything about them because they are built in Japan.
