Well it took a while to get used to the transmission and it still annoys me sometimes but if I drive it easy to normal it's great. (I'm a gas mileage nerd)

Other than that I love the truck....Rides wonderful, smooth, roomy, decent tunes, hopefully reliable and looks awesome....IMHO...lol

There for a while this summer I was considering trading for a manual but I decided to ride this on out and so I've been pretty satisfied.

Just hit the 10000 mile mark..... did a few long trips, commute is mostly 25 miles, half city, half interstate.
So far, not bad in my opinion....averaging 21-22 per tank, and hit 23 on a long extended run to Charleston

I have a 2016 tacoma 4x4 with a lift kit and a camper shell while toting cat litter buckets that I keep forgetting to take out. I get "average" 16.3-18.1 and I have not found a single ounce of reason why. I can be stuck in traffic and arrive with 18 mph or I can be all highway in cruise control and barely get 16. There are times when I get 13.4 mpg. All roads here are flat, elevation is the same. The only variable is temperature. Sometimes like today is a cold day so it is 85F and I just came from a store and it said 18 mpg. Yesterday coming back from work when it was 81 I got 17 mpg. Shrugs.

I know one thing for sure that my digital "remaining" is full of it. With full tank it will say "distance to empty is 384 miles". 306 miles later I am arriving on fumes. I put about 18.2 gallons into that tank too. I figured it could not be that good so digital thing is wrong (granted it always shows ideal conditions etc etc). What I have not yet established is whether "warning low fuel x miles left" is accurate. Yesterday I arrived with 3 miles left on the dial. For all I know it could have gone another 30 miles or another 30 feet.

Edit: I have 32 psi in my offroad tires.

Dunno if I'm seeing a pattern here but it seems like the OR is doing much worse on the highway than SR5/Sport. Again, thinking tires and dam but I could be wrong.

Sounds about like mine. I decided to see one day and arrived at the gas station with 3 miles on the distance to empty meter and it took 17.8 gallons at the pump. So it still had about 3 gallons left which is the reserve on these trucks from what I can tell. So it could easily go another 30 miles and not be out. I think Toyota does this on purpose of course for those that love to run on empty all the time (not me).

21-22mpg before transmission TSB, now 18-19mpg after, also not happy. If enough people don't achieve EPA estimates and make a fuss about it, Toyota could see a class action lawsuit on their hands...

I fall into category of people who like to arrive to a gas station on empty tank. That being said my definition of empty varies. When I am towing my travel trailer, my "empty" is no less than 1/4 of a tank.

This past summer before the accident on my old tacoma I was hauling to a campground and had assumed that I would start this long stretch on a quarter tank, have plenty of miles to spare to fill up half way. Boy was I wrong. Gas station was gone, as in demolition gone. Only option was to keep going because I was halfway. And so I went biting my tongue... look down on the dial and tank was empty as in zero. Passed 3 gas stations... all closed. 2am on a major commute road... I made it on quarter tank while towing about 75 miles and my truck literally stalled with a gas station in sight. I just rolled right into it with inertia. Never again.

This becomes easier when I daily drives because all gas stations are open so when I tow my absolute minimum is 1/4 of a tank and when I daily drive I arrive with a few miles to spare. I don't know why...same thing with my mower. I like to run it dry to get all that nasty gas out of there. Don't know if it is doing any difference but that is how I have been driving for past 18 odd years.

After reading these post, I've come to realize.......

Looks like all lift kits and bigger off-road tires kill gas mileage.

I've had an opportunity to run my DCLB OR on long highway road trips both in stock form and with some mods. I bought the truck in July and just rolled 12,000 miles on it (4.5 months tops)

    1. Summer trip to Colorado- 850 miles, almost all of it western highway posted speeds 80mph. Bone stock truck less than 2,000 miles on the odo- average was 16mpg
    2. Returned today from a 3,800 mile 6 day round trip from Montana to Ohio (and back). Cooper ST/Maxx tires and a modest 1.5" lift, armor under the truck. There are 2 distinct mpg stories. Western states- 80mph posted stretches- 13mpg. The BEST MPG I achieved was on a stretch of highway in Illinois, including south of Chicago. Posted max speed 60-65mph, but average speed less due to traffic- 18.3mpg

It is fair to say that this vehicle will perform fairly poorly (MPG wise) at speeds in excess of 65 mph.

I certainly did not expect to achieve the rated 21mpg+ highway mileage after mods, but I wasn't expecting the overall mpg performance to be that bad at our highway speeds. MPG in my truck literally falls off a cliff over 65mph whether stock or not.

Took my Dbl Cab, Long Bed TRD-OR, with ARE MX series camper shell, on a 1800 mile road trip last week, averaging 70 to 85 MPH, and came out with an average MPG of 18.5, RPM gets around between 2000 to 3000, and when I hit 85 MPH, goes up to 5k. On my regular use around town, I can get between 21 to 23 mpg, top freeway speed between 60-65 MPH, maintaining between 1400 to 1800 rpm. The road going to my destination had a lot of uphill trips, requiring more energy, than the road trip back home. Had to fill up 3x heading up, and 2x heading back home. I would say its not bad. the Tacoma had a lot of power going up on I-15, and handling the curves on Pacheco pass. If I had taken the Sienna, it would probably turtle its way up the I-15, backing up traffic.

2017 DCSB Sr5. Completely stock with 2500 miles. I have averaged 21.5 to 22. Worst was 20.5, with lots of stop and go, and warming the truck up. I would say I average around 60 to 65 MPH, but live in a fairly rural area. I noticed my mpg takes a drastic drop much above 70.

I have not bothered to check mine. I have seen numbers like 4 and 24 on the computer. I'm guessing it gets about the same as the truck I traded in...a 2009 4 cylinder Suzuki Equator. Added 4x4 and v6 to this one too.
