I hover right at or just below 16 mpg. I thought it would be better as well, but I will be the first to admit, my driving habits are exactly MPG conscious.

I've noticed a trend. That is most likely all of our problems. my old tsx was supposed to get something like 24mpg. I never went above 19/20; so getting 17.3 in a truck aint too shabby, haha.

i used to get around 19-21, city driving that consists of 30mph-65mph, but it feels like its slugging trying to save gas. Now i get about 17-18 with a little bit of a heavy foot.

I went to the Chevy/GMC dealer today. They are letting me test run a Colorado crew cab long box duramax for the rest of the weekend. Only 15miles on the ODO. I promptly took it 43 miles up to Gates of the Mountains from Helena (long slow steady climb) and back to home. I averaged 26mpg.

That's a brand new, unbroken-in motor. Steady as she goes, no weird shifting, straight ass torque up the hill doing 75-80mph.

Holy shit. This is what a truck should feel like.

Uncle Sam's is the closest like 1 1/2 HR north in Huntsville which is a little more mud then I like but a few trails. Brazos Valley is the best closes one in College Station but you have to be invited to offroad there. If you want to mess around on sand San Louis Pass (good place to fish) is alright for cruising and dunes. FYI dunes are illegal but a lot of people drive over them really fast and move on

So far got 15 mpg going 75 mpg to Baton Rogue I blame the cold front rolling in with an extra 10 mph head winds. Second leg was getting 18 mpg going 80 mph to Mississippi. Today getting 15 mph going 80 mph up to Tennessee. Also was 35 degrees this morning which I'm sure effected the drive so far. Currently loaded with 330 lbs of personnel 75 lbs of dogs and 500 lbs of gear.

I have a TRD OR 4x4 DCLB and I've averaged around 18-19 about 80% highway on i70 in Colorado going up and down to the mountains and about 20% city driving in denver. Mileage still seems to be improving and I have about 2500 on the odometer

On my first tank, have a little over 250 miles on it so far, showing 20.2mpg average. That's probably 60-70% regular commuting, the rest freeway. On the freeway today showed 22mpg one way (uphill slightly) and 25mpg the way back. Mostly 65mph

I've had my 2017 (SR5 double cab, 3.5l, auto, 4WD) exactly a month now, 850 miles on the clock. My daily 17-mile commute is two-thirds Interstate and I've been getting between 22.0 and 23.5mpg -- unless there's a headwind, which knocks it down to between 19 and 20.5mpg. Stop-and-go orban driving takes it to 18.5mpg.

it gets better. I have a 16 diesel Colorado i got in March and it now has almost 25k miles on it. I commute 80 miles a day to work and it is 70 to 75 most the way. I get a solid 31 mpg on my z71 4x4 during the week commute. Then i run around with wife and playing all weekend another 300 miles and overall mpg usually is between 28.3 and 30.1 weekly if i don't tow. I had a 16 Tacoma crew sport 4x4 tech pkg i sold due to comfort(still liked that truck and fun and best off road)but went to Colorado because i like the mid size a lot. I tried the gas and it wasn't near as smooth as the diesel power train. As you said it is very smooth and it does has a little lag before turbo kicks but real small and i got used to it. No issues at all so far. I will say i like the look of taco better and interior of taco better in my opinion. Wish seat position was better and had adjustments but their is trade offs. MPG and smooth engine trans is a plus for the Colorado no question. Off road Tacoma and looks etc go to Tacoma.

I noticed the same thing in my new Tacoma the other day, as I was trying to figure out the relationship between the "Distance to Empty" reading and my low fuel light. The Distance to Empty was down to about 30 miles before the light came on. The manual states pretty clearly that the light comes on with 3.2 gallons remaining and I am averaging about 18 mpg, so that did not make sense. When I filled the truck, I was down to about 20 miles remaining on the Distance to Empt gauge, but I was only able to put about 17.2 gallons in the tank, meaning I still had about 3 gallons left (which should be almost 60 miles). Given that, my conclusion is that the "Distance to Empty" is a very conservative reading and is probably understating how far you can go to empty by about 30-40 miles, not that this is a bad thing!

The Average Fuel Economy reading, on the other hand, seems to be pretty accurate compared to the calculated fuel economy, for my truck at least. This is a pleasant surprise compared to my car (2016 Outback) where the car gauge overstates the MPG consistently by 1-2 mpg compared with calculated.

Their website is very good and allows you to search stats for similar vehicles (and other vehicle types as well, I used it to compare the mileage of v6 Tacomas vs 4 cylinder when I got my truck (concluding, btw, that they weren't that different)).

I'm jealous. I'm getting 15mpg local driving from around 35-50mph with a light foot. Mine is stock aside from rock sliders.

I'm using a Smart Ride monitor from my insurance company (Nationwide) that monitors my acceleration, braking and night driving to determine my driving style so I can get a reduction in my insurance. For the last 5 months (one month to go) I've been extremely careful to press the accelerator smoothly and gently on take-off and my gas mileage is running about 25.2 mpg even though my speeds range from 70 to 80 on the highway.

I have 2,500 miles and 80-90% of it is highway. I get a reading of about 23 average mpg on the highway when going 65mph which is exactly what it's rated for.

But if I light-foot it and lug around top gear at about 47mph in the country roads, I get a solid 30+mpg easily. Very easy to eat gas in this thing but also easy to save it...

Just finished a 3 week vacation during which I drove the Tacoma 6700 miles from Mississippi thru Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and California at speeds ranging from 35 to 8O+ (for extended periods of time). Roads varied from reasonably flat to extremely mountainous (Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, Sequoia and Yosemite). I saw a high of 28 mpg but averaged 26.8...extremely pleased with this truck. I have not had the transmission TSB done and not sure I want to bother.

my trd offroad i get about 18.5 to 18.9 average fuel tank lasts me 375-385, if i tow my atv and trailer than that goes to shitz and get down to 15 mpg, also keep in mind i am at elevation 5000 + with atv will traverse passes that are up to 11k.

overall not bad, my bro has infinity q45 and his mpg is 16 average and mountains down to 12, so i cant complain. BUT would love to have diesel in this thing, 3.5 sucks :)
