There is a reason we don't see Chevy Colorados on the trails here in New Mexico or Colorado. They were designed like passenger cars with a bed. Horrible clearances and approach and departure angles. The new Tacoma is one step closer to that misguided philosophy. Whatever the "reason", this new generation of truck is less capable in stock form than the generations before. It's lost 20% of its approach angle from the Tacoma made a year before. Less truck, more "cushy" car. The safety standard should have been satisfied with a more fully functional design.

The good part is they can now make a re-fresh easier. A refresh that is less hideous.

For me, this highlights how easy it would be to change the design of the front end. A new hood & nose can significantly change the look of the truck.

I for one prefer the understated Toyota look of old. It would be pretty easy to supply a "bland" look hood, grille, bumper that I'd like. :)

Like I said, this just means they can fix the ugly front end that much easier!

I am pretty sure I saw Sweers doing an interview about this truck a short while ago and he was commenting about how the rear bumpers are prone to being damaged. With that in mind they were making it in three pieces to make it a more affordable repair for the customer. Then they turn around and make this front section all one piece? I really like Toyota but sometimes I wonder....

Jeff Lange confirmed the front bumper is 3 parts. See this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...dated-information.387793/page-8#post-10751657

Lower grill is 3 parts and separate from bumper. The main grill and bumper are a single piece unit.

    No?

This new "Gen 3" sounds like an absolute shitshow.

It is funny that some 2nd gen owner can't stop praising this generation, but still mods and remove the original front bumper to get more clearance. If I understand correctly, regardless the front end, many would modify it anyway. Why bother then if it is nice or ugly. I also find the 2015 front end nicer, but I can live with the 2016's.

For myself, I don't own a truck now, and I will probably buy a 3rd gen anyway. I could probably get a 2nd gen with a rebate, but I want the newer version for value at least.

Probably damaged by dragging the low hanging air dam while backing down the Sandy hill demonstrating crawl control.

The grille is one piece, the bumper is another piece, they're not together.

The lower grille is also separate from the bumper.

    It's not one piece.

Thought it might be related to this. Seems 2016's are only in the southwest at the moment. I guess they get first allocations because of their proximity to the Baja Mexico plant.

Sorry, I meant that it a fab shop that the bumper came from and it ended there at that salvage yard. I do know it's a salvage yard lol

To me, that cab looks like the 2005-2014 roof line, including it's door handles. I'd say it's a photoshopped bed as it doesn't even look correct to the complete picture. Maybe I'm wrong.

They're mocking up some fiber glass bedsides.
But I do agree...the cabs are very similar still. Size is the same imo

I thought the approaching angle was suppose to be better, that's how all the YouTube videos made it out to be. The videos all make it sound like it's more off road features from the factory. I guess I've been living under a rock and need to come to the gen 3 forum more lol.

The cab and roof line haven't changed. That's why the doors are the same on the access cab and the roof rack is the same for the double cab. 2016 is an upgraded/updated 2015.
