Same here, and it works great

 

I bought a locking gas cap from the dealer for $10, I just put it on my truck bed when I'm filling up, simple as that

 

I haven't tried it, but it seems like one could glue a small powerful magnet to the cap and just stick the cap to the inside of the cover when open. I mean... if hanging it from the latch isn't working for you.

 

Ever wonder what those bends on the cap cord is for? It's to clip to top of fuel door...

 

If you don't want to fight with hanging it, you can move the black tether to the next hole out, give you a little bit of play and easier to hang on the latch. It's just a rubber nipple you have to work out .

 

Here on the prairie you would be chasing it across the parking lot if you sat it on the bed rail.

 

I guess I'm lucky that I don't live on the prairie, but even if I do sit on the bed rail, my gas cap stays put

 

or us forgetful (ADHD) folks have been know to drive off and the cap goes into the wind down the road. I like it connected, even if I should always remember to put the gas cap on.

 

I just stuck a magnetic hook that I think I got from Harbor Freight on the inside of the door. Its chrome so it catches the gas monkeys attention and hopefully they use it. (cant pump your own here in OR)

 

2nd gen cap fits perfectly between the trigger and handle on a fuel nozzle. It was really handy because most nozzles are missing the trigger lock around here.

My Frontier has a hanger for the cap, its too tall to fit between the trigger and handle. Doh!

 

If you pop that cable off and pop it into the hole to the left of it the cable will have a little more slack making it easier to hang on the latch.

Saw your post and thought about it when I filled up Thursday. On my Tacoma the tether is about 2 inches short. This will not work.

I have no problem hanging it on the latch though. Works for me.

 

There's two choices. So pick your poison. The cap has indentations so it hooks on the lid.

 

So glad I found this thread. First time filling up my tank today, and I felt like a moron.

 

Why lock a gas cap when they can punch a hole in the plastic gas tank.

 

I have no exes in California....
