4cyl and v6 will have roughly the same depreciation %.

These are auction reports for 2013 models. Both prerunner, one 4cyl one v6.

So we have proven the I4 doesn't kill you on resale..

I am shocked that it isn't true.

Oh, and even though I'm an ass, I love the picture that you did take. I'll hopefully be buying one very similar soon. And I appreciated that you posted it with the 265's on.

Hahaha sure. And I agree with you, no matter how the picture looks. The black 16's seems to mask the dinky tire size better than the steel wheels. The silver AC i4 is my favorite. I was dead set on having to buying the black 16's until I saw your shot with the steelies. Now I'm fine either way it goes.

Yeah I found cars.com to be the absolute best source for pictures all month.
All the cool 4cyl 5spd options seems to have been eaten up already though. There's only 13 on Cars.com now :(

That's exactly why I decided to just buy new after a couple months of searching for a good used deal. The price difference between a new and a late low-mileage Tacoma is so negligible, I'd rather just buy new and know where all my miles have been.

That is why I canceled my V6 SR5 4X2 and going with the tried and true 4 cylinder SR Automatic.

A smart buyer buys the vehicle that best matches the use he gives it. I always had 4 cylinder trucks except for one early on. I went to six cylinders when my boats got bigger and it just felt unsafe towing them. I also started using the truck to travel more to the kids house carting stuff back and forth. But, I would have a 4 cylinder if I go back to smaller boats. You are fine. Just try the truck out in the same way and over the same roads I plan on using it. I may buy yours used.

unless you're hauling pallets of bricks or lead, you literally cannot fit enough stuff in the bed of a 2016 2.7L to overload it. Towing anything heavier than a junk-hauling trailer or small boat trailer might get a little dicey if you have to take them on the interstate.

If you don't need to tow heavy stuff, the 4banger is fine. It's also an older, tested, known-reliable engine from previous years.

The atkinson-cycle V6 may turn out to be bulletproof, and it likely will. But it could also turn out to be famous for crapping the bed at 80k miles. We just don't know yet. With the 2.7, we DO know it'll last at least past 150k miles with basic maintenance. Often more with TLC.

The 5-speed manual transmission is the same one that has been used for years in Tacomas. Well known, well tested, and well respected.

I can't speak for the automatics because I haven't owned an automatic daily driver for over a decade :p

I test drove the 2.7 and 3.5 with the intent of using the truck for light duty home depot runs, hauling stuff to the dump and single day camping trips. I felt that the 2.7 fit the bill and if I do decide to start towing boats or travel trailers I could always trade up. So far I am very pleased with the 2.7 and 6 speed auto.
