I never did anything on my '11 expect AT tires and a drop in K&N filter. It was a prerunner so I didn't want to invest too much in it because I had planned on trading it in. Got this one which is configured how I wanted, so assuming it lasts I'll hang on to it for a little while or until I outgrow it. Figured I'll do some slight modding to this one then.

Would disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes to
reset the learning process help after the cai and exhaust install?

Unfortunately there probably won't ever be a tune. The newer Toyota computers are known to be uncrackable, I'm sure it'll be a long time before you see anything that truly changes the settings.

My stock exhaust is sitting in an old shed building collecting dust... The chrome tip is sitting in my workshop.... Also collecting dust.

But it only had 600 miles on it so i couldn't just leave it for the shop to sell to someone else. They tried keeping it... But didn't wanna give me any discount for it... So i brought it home.

Guys......I've been helping AFE with development and id say its definitely worth the money. It really seems to wake the truck up quite a bit.

Go to clublexus.com, end of argument.
Or google club Lexus tune. Or go to rrracing or tuning tech's websites. They've been cracking them since New Years, they can now give you an OBD and you can change maps whenever. Tacoma is not that far away

Glassworks unlimited front fender flares 6.5" and rear 7". K&n air filter, . Blistein front struts, Blistein rear shocks. Front bumper with two pro comp lights and two led fog lights. Flowmaster exhaust and k&n air filter, scan gauge2, flowmaster muffler, and spider works front wheel spacers.
I put a magna flow on my 2016 Tacoma. Let me say wasn't that happy with it to be honest. It sounds good at low rpm, but once you get on it sounds like a typical Honda Civic with a fart can. Anyone else have this problem. I was told if I remove two of the four cats it would help with sound.

went back to stock and called it a day.

I figured I would throw in my 2 cents worth of novice experience. To answer the original inquiry about a full exhaust, I did that to my 2010 4Runner in hopes of gaining a few mpg and a few hp. I had a full stainless exhaust (DT short tube headers, URD y-pipe and magnaflow cat-back) and it was by far the biggest waste of money as far as mods were concerned. I had over 10k into my truck (full armor, intake, exhaust, susp, rack, lights...) and I felt this gained me nearly nothing but an ass pain. First, the headers were $750 and I could not do that install myself, so after a good mechanic fought with them for 2 days, that was an additional $750. The y-pipe and cat-back I installed myself and both were in the $500-$700 range (each) from what I remember. I then installed an AFE intake and a URD maf-calibrator (piggy back style system) and then drove down to Virginia to have Gadget tune it. I will say the truck ran great and Gadget said I gained a few hp, as well as it sounded pretty damn good for a V6 (ya, not a big fan of the V6 modified sound, nothing compared to a V8 4Runner!). So why was it a waste of money you ask??? well, all total it was prob in the neighborhood of 3k (all the parts and labor mentioned above) for zero extra mpg's and maybe 15-20 hp (being generous with the estimates), as a matter of fact my mpg's went down slightly. So that brings me to the last point, no matter how many O2 simulators I went through (URD O2 sim, which I had replaced 1-2 times, can't remember now), I would still throw a catalyst code and get a check engine light, enough to be a little annoying. I learned to live with it....however living in NY I had to get my truck inspected every year and that caused a gigantic ass-pain.

Would I do it again? hell no....
However, I do like to hear a little tone from my motor when driving and since I drive a MT, I have installed the magnaflow cat-back kit. Mostly because I think the 3.5 sounds like a sewing machine and I like to hear the rpm's when driving rather than watch the tach. This is obviously personal preference and some will agree and some will disagree, but the bottom-line is, it's my truck so I will do what makes me happy.

As far as the sound....ya its OK, I will agree its not the best sounding V6 exhaust but I am not going to try and sell/return the kit, I will live with it just fine. Performance gains? zero....and I wasn't looking for any. I don't feel any difference in throttle response than before, and I drive it like I stole it.

For the guy who got an estimate for installation I will say that for both the 4Runner and Tacoma this was one of the easiest mods I have ever done. Both times it was 30 mins tops, laying on my back, with a cordless impact wrench. Def don't pay someone to install this, all you need is a socket wrench.

I hope this helps...probably more like 1 and a half cents, but tried to give you 2.

I have to agree with the above. Back in the day with poorly bent and restrictive stock exhaust systems, replacing everything did offer nice HP gains. The stock Tacoma exhaust is designed nicely, clean bends, yeah one slightly crushed pipe however there is no performance lost from it, pretty nice stock y pipe also. Spend $1000 and replace it all but for what? You will not gain a damn thing other than having $1000 less to your name. I've owned and built more cars than I can count, both performance and off road. I've put an exhaust system on damn near all of them and spent more money than I even want to think about. I won't be wasting my $ this time around other than maybe a nice black exhaust tip.

High temp paint or just elcheapo flat black? I'd like to paint as much of the exposed exhaust as possible, I hate seeing it.

Installed my K&N intake couple weeks ago. Couldn't upload photos because I was out of the country. These are the papers that came with it... Dyno tests and install instructions. Heard a huge difference in sound. Feels like the truck is way more responsive now.

The TRD Performance Air Intake is a straight tube without the resonators. It utilizes the bottom half of the stock airbox.
It has a tube which I assume is what they (TRD) called the 'air intake accelerator.' It is a panel filter (TRD performance filter).
With regards to performance, it feels like the truck is more responsive. Sound quality seems relatively unchanged prior to 4000 RPM. After 4k, it is definitely louder.

@SidZer0 :Thanks for posting the pics of the stock airbox. I didn't know what to call the chambers hanging off the tube from the stock airbox prior to your post.

I did the k&n with a Gibson catback. Also sounds pretty good...for a 6 cylinder...
