My 2016 Tacoma Limited rear end bottoms out when I go over small bumps on the highway and especially speed bumps even at low speeds, with small loads in truck, E.G. less than 500lbs gross payloads (occupants + rear bed) . I have 53k miles. Do I need to replace rear shocks? What is the best heavy duty replacements that meet Tacoma OEM specs?

How much space do you have between the frame and bump stop? Sounds like a typical Tacoma leaf spring, not bad or worn shocks. All stock Mine would ride on bump stops with 900lbs back there, 4-500 it’ll hit them without much effort. Lifted at all?

Agree it might need springs but shocks typically last 45-50k miles. I plan to replace the shocks on my Limited with Bilsteins at 45k .

The last thing I would would replace with heavy duty. The ride would horrible when empty.

Whatever came stock or the equivalent from the local parts stores.

It's very hard to improve the ride with stock springs with shocks alone.

The only way would be to replace the springs anong with a different shock.

Then you have to ask yourself is the time and money worth a small gain.

try hitting the bump with more speed. the shocks are digressive so they will actually feel softer with a lower load. my front shocks don't compress nearly as much when i hit them above 10 mph. at like 1-2 mph, it feels like it uses all the travel. kinda weird if you're not used to it.
