it's every 60k according to the Maintenance Guide but the iridium-tipped plugs themselves are apparently heated for 120k

I skipped the 60k interval because everything is running fine and I wasn't worried about the Emissions Control Warranty

    Haha, all good!

That’s interesting, never paid attention to that emission control warranty.

I still think I’ll do mine at 60, it’s gonna take me another couple years at least to hit 60k miles.

It does it hot or cold...best way to describe is if I had a glass of water in the cupholder...normal idle the water would be calm. When it acts up it'll make ripples in the water.

It can't be normal. Toyota wouldn't release something that shakes like a harley. The A/C compressor cycling seems to have some affect on it...the slight RPM increase when the compressor kicks on makes it smooth out.

I'll get the scanner on it tonight and see what I can find, then throw it on the rack and check out the motor mounts, etc...

Nailed it...one plug was about 2 turns loose.

Seems to run smooth now. No idea how that didn't set a misfire code.

Thanks. Now onto all other annoying little shit I'm starting to notice.

Did mine at 80k, still looked pretty new save for some discoloration, couldn't see any wear between it an a brand new plug. But its easy and infrequent enough that I try to do every 60-80k even though I don't think its really needed that early.

The fucking clutch pedal to start with. I did tons of clutch pedal spring bushings on 1st gen tacos at the dealer under warranty...amazing that they having figured out how to fix it by now.

There's a creak/crunch in the front end over bumps...

Something is moving in the driveline on stop/start...likely the slipyoke needs some lube, but maybe something else...dunno yet.

Noticed a strange noise/vibe through in 3rd today that I haven't noticed before...we'll change the oil and see how it looks.

Now that I've re-learned how to drive a manual with a stuck throttle (idle hang)...since it's been 10 years since I got rid of my X-runner...I'm noticing that this thing runs like an old chevy with a bad carburetor...it's almost like it comes on boost at a certain point, but has no balls at all below 3K or so, regardless of throttle position. The gas pedal does literally nothing under a lot of conditions. I know these are quirky, but what I'm experiencing can't be right.

He’s a tech/former Toyota employee. We notice everything. It’s an unfortunate side effect of having driven hundreds, if not thousands of cars.

I myself was not a tech, but I did deliveries in pretty much every car you can imagine. I now notice every single little thing about a car that I drive. It annoys the shit out of my friends when I get in their cars and immediately point out something that turns out to be an issue

Get it tuned. I’ve also driven a shit ton of untuned early 3GS and they all are annoying as shit like that. I promise, it doesn’t sound like itll fix it getting it tuned, I had my doubts, but holy shit it does.

I'm in CA...gotta keep it smog legal. I need to talk to some of the tuners and see how that works.

@tonered would be able to explain better, but I believe it’s completely untraceble and passes smog fine.

Oh...and I was listening to normal FM radio today on the road...and it was skipping, like a fucked up CD. Tried 2 different stations with the same result. Not quite sure where to start with that.

There hasn't been any struggle with smog checks in CA that has been posted.

The tune will still properly set all the DTC and Readiness codes.

Welcome to the 3.5 liter v6, sips fuel like a v8 and has the power of the i4.

there is a distinctive “on cam” power boost around 4K rpm

Damn that sounds terrible. My biggest complain on my 18 was throttle response and inconsistent clutch engagements.

Did the ADM and it really helped, then couple years later got the SFOB tune. Couldn’t be happier, drives amazing on 94E0. On stock tune I’ve always used 91E0 and had no hesitations or lack of power. I did come from a 4.0 ranger so keep that in mind.

Had the clutch pedal TSB done 4 years ago and it’s been great so far.

Im at 38k miles currently, really love this thing.

It’s kind of true, dunno about the i4 part though:)
