No joke... money money everywhere! I think Bama cleared $46 million in PROFIT from last season, so paying Saban $7-8 million is a steal.

The contract says that should his pay become less than the average of the three highest paid coaches in the nation, or less than the pay of the five highest paid coaches, UA agrees to increase his pay to the higher of the two averages. At the time he signed it, though, he was the highest paid coach.

Apparently the reason Barnett left when he did is that he can transfer to a JUCO school that's on the quarter system and play the remainder of this season in JUCO, then transfer anywhere he wants and play FBS ball w/o having to sit out a year.

I agree 100% w/ those who say he's acting like a spoiled child. That's exactly what he's doing. He things he's NFL-caliber talent and he won't get a shot to prove it to the NFL if he's sitting behind Hurts for 3 years.

 

On Saban's salary...

I don't know if other coaches are compensated the same way, but according to the original contact, Saban is only paid about $225k/year to coach football. The millions come from his agreement to perform at least 15 "obligated events" per year. I heard that this is basically the weekly call-in show "Hey, Coach" plus a few other things.

I guess they think that if they paid him $6m to coach and only a few hundred thousand to show up for public events, he might just blow them off.

Here's a link to his 2007 contract. The amounts are outdated, but they way it's paid out is not. The football coaching "base salary' is on pages 5-6, and the "personal services" fees are on pages 12-13.

Its really a tough situation for both the team and the player. For the team, they are looking to load up on talent. For the player, they are looking to showcase skills and abilities, to make it to the next level. I honestly cant blame him or the team for anything really. This is just a way of life for teams that stockpile top notch talent year after year. He'll definitely go somewhere and start. He could probably start at MOST power 5 schools.

 

Funny you mention that after LSU's player had charges dropped....smh.

Also, you probably cant understand what players at Alabama may go through with fans on the streets...you know, because, UTenn.....

 

Why wasn't it allowed? Too much individual attention? I don't know that I can recall a Bama player wearing a visor, but I also don't know the reasoning behind not being ALLOWED to wear one? I would think it would add an element of safety for the eyes...

 

What do you expect when a team constantly brings in tons of 4* and 5* players. Once you have a couple of years of that you are going to have several of those players transfer to go get playing time. Thing that gets me with Barnett is he is 1 ACL tear from taking control of one of the best teams in the nation.

 

You can't blame him for leaving and wanting to go play, but don't say that you "enjoy competition" and run away the second it doesn't go your way...

 

Mainly just looking at the gun theme from Cam Robinsons incident.. I don't think you could honestly justify carrying a gun without a permit?

 

There have been a ton of Bama players to wear visors, and it was something about tradition or whatever.

 

Um, you can, but not without pulling in politics. Technically the 2nd Amendment allows anyone to carry, no matter what. Its called "Constitutional Carry" and Missouri just got rid of all of the state laws pertaining to carrying as they directly conflict with the constitution. That's the simplest, shortest answer I can give, without a ban. Will probably get a warning.

Coach O is trying to let the players be themselves more and have a little fun. It's a good move IMO

 

Eh he broke the law (which is far too common with these idiots).

Why is it so hard for them to stay out of trouble?
