EUGENE, Ore. - In another innovative move, the University of Oregon announced plans for the world’s first LED football field, which will be ready for the 2016 home opener with UC Davis.

Construction of the time-sensitive project has begun with the removal of the existing turf and removal of sixteen inches of concrete necessary to install the LED lighting hardware and clear acrylic turf.

“Finally our product will come to light.” Hank Scorpio, CEO of Globex Corporation said, “Oregon football is an incredible shining star. We have been working on prototypes since we partnered with LiteBrite to produce a more reliable, energy efficient product. We expanded into field turf and believe this will be the catalyst to seeing it become a residential product neighbors can enjoy year-round.

Even though it's a joke, I'm sure someone in the front office is saying "hmmm.....maybe we...."

Honestly, it would be cool. Its a cool idea. Think of all the info that could be displayed. Play clock could follow the QB. Pressure sensors could verify out of bounds or ball placement issues... and TD's.

I said years and years ago they will someday have sensors in uniforms, in the ball and in and around the field of play to tell if the ball was in or out of bounds, ball crossed goal line, players knee was down, etc. It would be nuts.

Here's the fake pics they put up

Yeah, you could have sensors in the uni's and the ball and shoes, and the field could actually track and light up with foot steps and where the ball hits....the potential is huge.

Still not sure how you get that to be soft enough to play on though....

With the advancements Samsung has made with flexible screens though, I suppose it may not be far off.

Would be crazy and you know people in the business has thought or is thinking of it. Turf isn't very forgiving (I know first hand) and it tears up ligaments and joints and shit , so they would have to really finger something out to ever make something like that work.

I think that would be the gayest thing ever done in the history of CFB fields. A fat, rosy cheeked verne lundqueef would probably say: "Sorry guys, the game is cancelled because a terrance codyish guy busted 1,890 light emitting diodes when he landed, WOW!!! HOLY MACKERAL!!!"

The great satellite camp debate has reached an end.
The NCAA announced Friday that its Division I council voted to put an end to the camps, effective immediately.

“The Council approved a proposal applicable to the Football Bowl Subdivision that would require those schools to conduct camps and clinics at their school’s facilities or at facilities regularly used for practice or competition,” the NCAA said in a release. “Additionally, FBS coaches and noncoaching staff members with responsibilities specific to football may be employed only at their school’s camps or clinics. This rule change is effective immediately.”

SEC worried all the talent heading North?
