Need to start farming his family for kickers. Also, never seen a kicker that just did field goals and extra points.

The Tiger Athletic Foundation has more money than they know what to do with. Athletics are fully funded without university funds and actually donate money back to the university.

It just "looks bad" when local boosters are spending millions on a buyout when the university budget is taking cuts.

"Also similar to previous years, almost every athletic department in the country is listed as having taken subsidy money from elsewhere in order to remain afloat. Only seven of the 230 listed public schools are shown as having taken no subsidy money in 2013 (LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, Texas), and only four others are listed below $1 million (Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas A&M)."

Here's the full article along with a chart to see where your school ranks.

Huh, gotta wonder what those rankings look like now. Kinda surprised that State was doing fairly well on that list before the 2014 season. Still, very interesting read.

I'm surprised Alabama isn't #1 in that with all the sustained "success" they've had. Must have higher expenses.

It's more along the lines of how many donors you have and the size of their contributions. For instance I know many people that went to smaller schools but are large TAF donors because they grew up cheering for LSU football. The state of Alabama has to split that money between Auburn and Alabama. There are a lot of contributing factors that play into the profitability of an athletic program. For instance Nebraska reported no subsidy money and turned a profit, when was the last time they were relevant?

The New York Mets have signed former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow to a minor league contract. The team says he will head to the Instructional League in Florida. He is set to report on Sept. 18th.

Tebow will get a $100,000 signing bonus according to a report by the Associated Press.

"While I and the organization are mindful of the novel nature of this situation, this decision was strictly driven by baseball," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said during a conference call. "This was not something that was driven by marketing considerations or anything of the sort. We are extremely intrigued with the potential Tim has."

Tebow, 29, a former NFL quarterback, worked out for scouts last week in California. There were representatives from about 20 major league teams watching him run, catch and throw at a Los Angeles ball park. He also took batting practice. One of his hits reportedly went over the stadium scoreboard and was estimated to have traveled 400 feet.
