I have a 2016 2X4 28K miles. currently getting the coolant crossover pipe replaced but that's another story. while at the dealer talked to them about the 2023's. they had a Sport 2X4 sticker 43K. i don't like the hood scoop. they said that's the price they do not mark up. they said my trade in would be in the mid to low 20K's. sales manager said all 2024's will be 4 cyl. plus it is the first model year. i do not want anything to do with a 4 banger so it's trade up to a 2023 or just keep my 2016 that the extended warranty runs out in Oct. once the 2023's are gone bye bye 6 cyl Tacoma's. i know if i do nothing some day i will wish i had. can't make up my mind. i am 77 and making up my mind not so easy.
the dealer said he could order one and get it like in Nov.
    any thoughts?

edit..i screwed up, 37K. my brain is running on empty!

Is there anything about the 2023 that is worth 20k over your current truck? They sound very similar.

If you can afford it and want it, do it. I just went from a 16 to a 23 for the same reasons you stated.

Just bought a new ‘23 DCSB Sport at the end of March. Plan on it being my last truck. I would trade up, if you can.

28K miles? Why trade for basically the same thing for [cheap] new car money?

At 77, your current truck is going to likely outlast you.

    [I'm not THAT far behind.]

At 77 enjoy life and if you can afford it, why not. You said it yourself you will regret it if you dont.

Now you just need a 19yr old girlfriend and you can check back with us in another 20 years and let us know how the 2023 worked out.

I’m not saying I’d buy first year, but until we get actual info, I’m not making a decision based on rumors, especially not with a low mile current truck. Yeah, it’ll most likely be a 4 cylinder, but smaller displacement turbos are nothing new and have proven reliable and efficient.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
A '16 with only 28K at 6-7 years old? Why not keep with it and bank the $20K for maintenance & repairs after the extended warranty is done?
I turn 73 this Summer. Gave up my '06 TRD OR a bit over 2 years ago for a '21 TRD OR. The '06 treated me fair over the 15 years I drove it (and it got a new frame 9 years in!).
The current '21 TRD OR is likely my last Taco - I'll be 86 when it gets to the 15 year mark. Assuming it treats me as good as the '06, at 86 I doubt I'll be doing a lot of driving if family history is any indication.
Also, I never trust a sales manager's prediction about what's in the future line-up. They have been known to say whatever it takes to get a sale.

At 28k miles and only 6-7 years old, your truck is basically new and will easily last to 100k with no major issues. I had a first gen tundra for 12 years and had 160k and all I changed was timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket. It ran like a champ when I sold it and the guy I sold it to 5 years ago says it has 200k and still runs like a champ. Save the 20-25k and use that money to travel to Italy or Bora Bora.

Your current truck will likely last until you decide to stop driving or drive very little. Is there anything that makes the new one better? At 60 I figure my ‘22 could be my last truck.

Buying from a position of "OMG! It is going away forever!" fear is a recipe for disaster unless all factors are weighed. I stepped up from a 2007 Corolla to a 2022 TRD-OR because I *need* to go offroad ... at least I relocated from NC to AZ for it. Corollas do not offroad.

You have a truck that meets your usage needs, just needs some TLC to keep running. But you are considering spending more money (43-37) because you do not want to miss the opportunity for a Gen 3 Tacoma. I dread losing my OR when only Gen 4s are available new, but that is life and it will happen eventually when the Gen4 is 4 years in.

Use caution ad restraint, my opinion.

20k buys an awful lot of repairs on a Toyota. The warranty thing really holds no water. But if you simply WANT the new truck just for the smell and presumably different color paint, then go for it.

my thoughts are if you have a low mileage reliable vehicle that has been maintained and you know the history of it, and it meets your needs, it is not a good move to trade it in or sell it and replace it with the same regardless of your age or money situation.

if the vehicle no longer meets your needs such as you need a 4x4 or a larger vehicle, or it has been unreliable, then i could see replacing it.

something to keep in mind is the new vehicle may be a lemon, you never know.

besides, $43K seems high for what you are describing.

Edit - saw the price was $37K. regardless, keep the truck.

Trade in the 2016 for the new Sport that is in stock. No guarantees with your dealer getting a 2023 allocation for the exact truck you are looking for. I am retired and just traded a 2020 for 2023 Sport 2wd. No 4 cylinders for me with a 2024.
