REPEAT FOR THOSE WHO MISSED ... dealer trade-in offer is 37, not 20. 43-37 = $6K to cover for a new truck.

i thought 37 was the cost of the new truck, not 43.

    OK ... maybe I misread ... sorry. 37 seemed high for a dealer trade-in anyway ...

in 2 years i will either have a 10 year old truck or a 2 year old truck.
i can get extended warranty on the 2023.
the big one 2023 is the last of the V6 so this is my last chance to get out of a first model year truck.

6k for the new truck ?....
Run, don't walk to the dealer.

Sounds like you don't really use or need a 4x4 -

I will be more than bothered is someone totals my OR in 3 years. Nothing I can do to avoid a complex decision about 4-cylinder-turbo if the gods have decided already for me.

Another 60 year old here , biggest thing I would consider is this , will the the 3rd generation residual values go up, down or have no effect after the 4th are out ? I bought my 23 thinking ,my 10-15 year truck but if I can afford it (probably can) I’m already considering maybe a 25-26 4th gen so I’d say hold your 16 unless you willing to trade up twice over next 5 years

Sorry I missed the price difference and I assume you still live in beautiful Maui. I have a 17 Off road DC 4x4 79k miles with the white paint peel issue and I was in this exact spot 2 months ago. I have two buddies with 2022s one LB and the other in SB. I rode in both and there is no difference in ride and my interior was better maintained. There was a slight face lift in the grill in 2020 but other than that it’s the same truck. I shopped for A new off road and TRD pro and was offered 28k for my truck after it was repainted a second time. After calculating the difference plus TAXES it was a substantial gap. I kept my truck since it’s paid off and sank $4k in suspension parts and steel braided brake lines. Will Your $6k gap include Maui 4% sales of $1720?

Similar topic my mother in law (72) has a 2014 Loaded Honda Accord with 29k miles and takes it to dealer every 6 months for oil change regardless of mileage. Dealer told her all kinds of scare tactics like, you will need timing belt and water pump based on 9 years not mileage or we can get you in a gently used car. I told her to save her money as her car has a timing chain and cost effectively it was better to keep her car and save for the repairs. Her car looks new and with the prices of used cars they wanted it so they could resell at a substantial profit. Be wary of scar tactics from dealerships it’s how they add to their profits.

Ultimately you can decide but remember memories are worth more than possessions. Travel to someplace you’ve never been like Lake Como Italy.

Sorry, but I don't think any of the math in this thread is correct. The price of the new truck changed...and so did the trade-in values. Nonetheless....just get your truck fixed and get right with God.

if i do this i will not be going to a 4th gen. you should wait like 2 years into the 4th gen to get all the bugs worked out' not like me buying the first year of the 3rd gen.

Because math isn't required around here, keep your 2016. You already have the exact same truck, except yours is better. At <30k miles, your 2016 is still essentially brand new, and $20k-ish less than a new one. My recommendation is keep the 2016, and go buy a $10-15k sporty car to mod and have fun in if you're itching for something different

I just went down the same path. Dealer offered me "low $20's" for my '17 SR with 27K miles, Carvana gave me nearly $30K. Bought a brand new '23 for under $35K, so essentially, for $5K I now have a 6 year newer vehicle and even move up a trim level.
