I think i'm gonna bounce from this forum also, I absolutely love my problem free 16 trd offroad manual and have several friends with problem free autos that they love. The biggest reason is that all of these issues are NON-ISSUES. All it does is piss me off. Pair the 1grfe with this transmission AND IT WOULD SHIFT THE SAME F'ing WAY. Ohhhh my trans fluid is half court low, cry me a god damn river, 1/2 quart won't make a god damn bit of difference and if you said you felt it you're a liar! I greased my U-joints, no change, had grease and shifted the same. Not a single 2grfks has had a significant engine failure caused by its engineering. The vibes are half of what they were on the 2nd gen, especially when slowing from 20. You can only hear the howling because the cabin is twice as quiet as 2nd gen. You combine the over sensitive first time truck/taco owners with the 1st and 2nd gen trolls and it has thoroughly brainwashed potential consumers. All these people saying, i'm getting scared to buy, or better wait til the issues are worked out. You are getting a twisted and untruthful image of the 16 from this forum. They are built better with less issues than the 2nd gen by a LANDSLIDE.

I really don't think so. On my new 2013 manual the clutch slipped everytime when cold, entune rebooted everytime I drove. Bad vibes when braking, clunking when slowing and shifting into first. Handful of electrical issues. All before 36k. I have 10k on my new truck and it's perfect. All of those issues on my 2nd gen showed themselves early and the 3rd gen barely has one of them. Huge improvement in build quality

I have been a mechanic close to 30 years now and as far as the "issues" with this truck I havn't really been too concerned with them. Will continue monitoring and if they get worse and I think I can duplicate it for the dealer I will see what they think and possible repair and go from there. As far as the transmission fluid level checks I don't think you will find many dealers who will actually take the time to do it properly since the process is time consuming and most dealers probably do not have the tooling to do it.

I told my dealer of who I am pretty good friends with as I have bought and my parents have bought many vehicles from. I told him I wanted the level physically checked with the proper tooling, well ended up telling me the tech pulled the check plug and fluid came out so it is ok. Transmission was probably around 120 - 140* if I had to guess. Until Toyota will pay them to check the fluid properly or even do it period during a PDI it just won't happen I don't think. My post isn't a rant or anything as I am very happy with my truck and would encourage others that are considering getting one to just do it. As was said by another most of the "problems" really are not that big of an issue.

The only issue I have is when a person raises the truck a little and the bearing noise starts. It is just ridiculous that Toyota will not change the front diff clam shell and get rid of the excessive tolerance between it and the spider gear. As I said in another post I made all they would really have to possibly do that wouldn't cost them that much is to make a bushing and press into the spider gear end of the clam shell so there isn't so much play there if that would indeed be a possibility. Again this isn't so much a rant as a suggestion to Toyota.

Some of it haha, a couple of years need to go by before people will understand how successful the redesign was. Most of the people stirring the pot will be in a 3.5 eventually, whether it's the 4Runner or the Tacoma. Oh. And it's on pace for 200,000 units. Smashing previous Tacoma records

I do agree with you. My dealer cannot keep them on the lot. They are getting a few Canyon and Colorado owners trading in on them. The one I bought I was lucky as the day after I got it a guy came back in who was looking at it the day before and wanted to buy it. Snooze you lose, lol. I won

Stay away from the autotragic transmission until Toyota can resolve these issues.

    Or get a manual.

There is a thread on how to check the fluid level. Just do it yourself and then you know it's done and done right. Yes I know it: should be full from the factory, it's a $30K+ truck, it's a crime against humanity, etc and so forth....
Get your hands dirty and get familiar with the truck, the warranty will eventually run out and if you have even a basic idea of how the truck works you can avoid getting the shaft by so called "mechanics".

THIS! Right on man. I'm starting to think most of the people bitching about their trucks are older guys who honestly have nothing better to do with there time then to point out every single flaw, sound, vibration, ect. Let's face it there hasn't really been any real big issues. I'm sure if these people were buying something else they would have just as many complaints of not more. While I do think and agree there is some quality control issues Toyota needs to work out on the assembly lines, there doesn't seem to be any engineering defects or anything really major. There is always going to be room for improvement. Every manufacture does changes and a refresh after a few years. Someone that's super anal like that should wait until 2019-2020 to buy a Tacoma. Even then it's not going to be perfect

beginning to think creating this post was a mistake. defects on a new vehicle happen. lying about what one has done to the vehicle should be criminal. this is my 2nd taco and 4th Toyota truck. now that the trans is full the truck runs good. what will the future bring? this isn't bitching this is fact.

Same issues as you rainmanvt. Not familiar with how to work this site. My 2016 Limited is having big time issues too. My 4th V6. Others 05,10,15, and now 16. Dealership gives the "normal" every time I bring it in to complain. This can't be good for the trans. Slams into gear after 3 second delay. Surges without foot on gas. Teaches for gears on freeway. I live in FL. Goes from 6 to 5 to 4 to 5 to 6 continually with or without cruise on. Mileage is good. Around town about 22 to 23. Better on the freeway. No happy with the trucks tranny. Class action law suit?

Manuals are having issues getting stuck in gear . The '16's are just piles of crap.
I would expect these issues if it were made by ford or Hyundai but not Toyota

I've heard of some auto trans problems but don't know what they are. Mine has a little problem going into drive from reverse. When I back out of the garage, and put it in drive, it may take up to 2 sec to "fully" go into drive. Last time my oil was changed I talked to the service maniger and he recommended I leave it there 3 hrs and let them reprogram the tranny.
Any of you guys ran into this problem?
