My father-in-law just purchased a low mileage 2016 OR from a used car dealer and we found the SD card was missing. Navigation did not work and reported that no SD card was installed. He got the dealer to provide an SD and we installed but it still says it cannot read or SD not installed. I searched the forum but nearly all posts talked about updating a working Nav. Is there something more we have to do to configure the factory head unit? Is it possible his SD does not have the correct map?

you will need the Toyota OEM or equal. Your "dealer" SD card is nothing more than a piece of plastic that functions as an SD card. Not the same. Go to your dealer and ask them how much to replace - then go back to our dealer with the quote and recover the $ they screwed you out of. GL.

It came in a Toyota envelope. I will take a closer look and get a pic. If it is the correct SD, should it just be plug and play? Could I take mine out of my 2019 and plug it into his 2016 and should it work? Or is the software or maps different and not interchangeable? I don't want to mess up mine but would like to know if his is a good SD.

Don't know the answer to the inter-changeability. Mine is a 16. I would think a 19 would work in a 16 and the reverse. Yes it should be plug and play.

Yes, you can safely swap your card into his truck and back again. Updates for the nav are nothing more than a card with a newer software version. Let us know how it turns out.

PS, there doesn't seem to be a way to clone or copy the cards. Toyo did a good job locking them down.

PSS, make sure his firmware is up to date, though that shouldn't make a difference. It's done through the head unit.
