Planning on picking up a new tacoma in the near future (going to be the sport or off road) and I'm wondering if I should get the 16' or just wait for the 17's since they are already hitting some lots. From what I've been reading, sounds like everything in the 17 has been carried over from the 16 (other than the sliding back window). I know tacomas hold their value so well that I'm not sure I'd even be able to get a 16' cheaper than a 17'. Thoughts?

Also keep in mind, I'm in no rush so I'd even be willing to wait for the 18's if there are any glaring problems with the 16 and 17.

some of this, a little of that
My original plan was to wait for a 2018 to give them time to week out problems over the first couple of years.

What wait? The '17s are already out. I've had no issues with my '16, but when the '17s are already hitting the showroom floors, it seems like a no brainer to me unless there is some great deal on a '16.

I'm waiting for a 2017, because I think -- perhaps wishfully -- that the 17MY will have slightly fewer bugs and issues. And while 18MY will (or should be) much less buggy than either 16MY or 17MY, I can't wait that long. I'm willing to have a somewhat suspect truck (MY17) about 101 days from today, than have a (perhaps) more reliable truck in 101+365 = 466 days.

Between all the 3rd grade banter do we really know what the gears are going to be? I cant decipher all the back and forth sarcasm and school yard bully stuff from the little boys in here. Now the Tacoma commercials make sense at least.

Appears nothing changed (except an added Power Rear Window) from the 2016 to the 2017, even the Lower Control Arms are left unplugged as I verified yesterday during my test drive. I could not tell any discernible difference in drive-ability or performance between the new 2017 which was pretty much the identical model /trim /package of my 2016. I thought the power band felt maybe just a hair smoother when getting on the freeway but my guess is it was placebo and perhaps the fact the transmission seems to perform better while in Learning Mode. Since the truck only had 15 miles on it, it's safe to say it was in learning mode. Also since getting the TSB Software update for my transmission on my 2016, I felt some of the positive effects have worn off with mileage, likely due to learning mode tapering off.....

So now we need someone to come up with a Push Button learning mode reset mod

16s are cheaper but good luck finding exactly what you want.

and the same exact truck unless you want to pay thousands more for a power sliding rear window

Thanks! I thought that was the consensus, but with all the back and forth I couldn't tell for sure.

Think I'll most likely order a 17 so I can get exactly what I want. Now for the more important question. Super white or quicksand haha?

There will always be white trucks, not sure how long quicksand will stick around.
