then the installer was doing it wrong. I have a compustar (drone mobile) on a 2014 4runner with PTS and I use the factory fob for lock/unlock and cellphone for remote starting.

so it should be the same on the 2016 Tacoma Limited with PTS as the 4runner. just use the fob to lock/unlock and cellphone to remote start.

On all the rentals I get, the remote start is in the fob. Simply hold down the remote start button for 3 seconds and it locks the doors, starts the motor, turns the air/heat on high (depending on temp) and runs for 5 minutes. Seems to be an industry norm.

    Exactly.

I don't want another "thing" on my keys or to have to mess with my phone to start it. When it's factory, it's all in one factory fob. I'd also rather not replace the factory fob with an aftermarket one. I'm big on keeping things looking like they could be OEM wherever possible. On one of my past vehicles all I had were aftermarket Ilco keys and I specifically ordered an OEM blank because even that bothered me.

Is that the norm w/ remote starters, 5 min. and they shut off?

That I've seen. They're technically illegal in states where there are laws against leaving an unattended vehicle running.

    1. the point of the cellphone app is to negate the distance issue with the fob. when I am inside the movie theatre and the movie is over, start it up. when I am at work inside a metal building and the park spot is 1500-2000 feet away, start it up. when I am at the mall with the warden and we are on the other side of heading to the vehicle, start it up (over 3000-5000 feet away).

    2. I have mine set at 25 mins run time cause ND winters.

    3. all our vehicles are on the same account, that means I can unlock any vehicle w/o the keys/fob to get something out of it.

    4. your more likely to carry a cellphone more than anything else now a days.

    5. I can use the factory fob to remote start it, but the range is horrible.

hard launch is when the vehicles will be released to dealers for sale to public (a soft launch would be a limited release)

I talked to a few here at the office with them, all have a setting where they can choose - 5, 10 or 15 min. run time.

If it's not in their ordering system, it won't be public. I am still hoping to be able to put my order in on May 25th. Whatever I can get (screenshots, photocopies, bar napkins, etc.) I'll scan and post here.

    Ditto.

3 separate dealers have all of the details on what I'm buying and to let me know
as soon as the ordering can be started.

Viper/Directed is coming out with SmartStart 4.0 soon. I definitely want to abandon keys.

I have USAA and would end up going trough their TrueCar service. I doubt USAA will have the 2016 Tacoma listed for selection when I go to preorder one. How does the ordering process work? Are the prices negotiated prior to ordering or is that something that is done once the vehicle has arrived? Does anyone have any direct experience with something like this? Thanks in advance.
