2016 rack and pinion pop/ creaking

    Hold the bolt head on the top with a wrench. I believe the bolt passes through the frame with the nut on the bottom.

    I took the nut off but the bolt gets caught on the compressor before it will come out

    You could push the bolt up and cut off the head and then push it out the bottom. When reinstalling put the bolt in the opposite way with the nut on top.

    Good idea but not eniugh room on the bottom either

    This happens on the second gen racks as well. The solution is to cut off 1/2"-3/4" of the bottom of the bolt so there is juuuuust enough room to get it out.

    I would've sprayed some WD-40 in that area around the bolts and bushings to make sure you're clicking and popping is coming from that rack. It's going to be a bummer if you do all that work and it didn't fix the noise.

    i'm thinking i'm just going to pull the compressor out and get the bolt out that way.

    That works too. When you put it back in, I'd reinstall it upside down with a little loctite for peace of mind. I had my frame replaced by Toyota, and my bolt was upside down. Made my life so much easier when doing my R&P swap.

    well we loosened the bolt and turned the wheel back and forth and it didn't make any noise, so we sprayed some white lithium around the head of the bolt and the bushing. It helped with the popping a little bit. just going to take the compressor bolts out and move it out of the way of the rack bolt, then try and get the bushing out and put the new one in.

    The subframe drop bracket from my lift it in the way on the bottom so I really have no choice.

    Whomp whomp. Good luck with the bushing swap. Replacing my rack and pinion was the biggest bitch I've had to deal with so far.

    it cant be as bad as putting in the lift.

    Can't say for sure because I've never installed a drop bracket lift. Your r&p should be smoother since you're a 2016, and not a rusty 2005.

    I just don't want to pull any lines off of it. I've never really had any luck bleeding power steering.

    You'll 100% need to pull the lines off. Have you looked at any threads yet for replacing the bushings? People need air hammers and pickle forks to get the old ones out.

    When I was refilling my power steering, all I did was add fluid, fire up the truck, turn off the truck, and repeat. Once it was more full then I started turning the wheel back and forth to work the system. I haven't had any issues.

    i haven't looked anything up so far, I guess it wouldn't be to hard to pull it and service the power steering. I need to replace a axle boot anyways so ill just do it all in one shot. With some help with a 30 rack of course!
