Bought my first Toyota. A shiny, new SR5 with the V6 upgrade. I'm an independent contractor and I put 4,500 to 5,000 on my vehicles per month. I didn't want the TRD model because (A) the only off-roading I do is gravel, and (B) I didn't want to spend money on a hood with a fake scoop, and a truck with larger gas-guzzling wheels than the 17's that come with the SR5.

This truck is fantastic, almost perfect, except for one horrible, crucial component. The cruise control. Frankly, Toyota has balls for even calling it "cruise control". I'm not going to go in to rigorous details about how bad the rpm's jump wildly, and how much more gas I burn on " cruise" vs non, rather I'm wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket companies, or tech tips that may fix, or help with this issue. I've had this truck for 6 week, put 6,600K on it, and I'm seriously thinking of turning it in - at a loss, because the CC is that bad.

    It's a computer issue.

All Tacoma cruise controls behave that way.

    By design.

    Sorry.

Cruise seems to work ok for me.

Maybe you do what some others are doing and instead of using "D"rive you can use S-5 to limit it to 5th gear. Not sure if that would help you overall.

Mine is O.K. but nothing like the one in the Chevy Colorado I traded in last month. I just kick it off when I approach a incline I know will make the engine rev high. Then when I get to the top of the hill I hit resume and I continue on my merry way.

I'll try using cruise in Sport mode, thanks. I have an hour long drive this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
