2016 SR5 - Front End Rebuild Parts

    but I'm trying to identify the seals specifically for the both ends of the CV axles.

    I need the seals for these at the differential and the hub bearing assembly. What I see on the CV axles seems to be a seal integrated into a metal guard at the diff. I do not see parts images that look like these on any auto parts website including Toyota dealers so I need some assistance to determine all the seals I need for the CV axles.

    I purchased new SKF hub bearing assemblies so I do not need to be concerned with the seal between the bearing and hub.

    Here is what I located so far:

    CV Axle Shaft Oil Seal/Differential -
    Front Rt = 90311-47026 (SKF 18478)
    Front Lt = 90311-47027 (SKF 18195A)

    Hub Bearing Ass'y -
    90316-A0001

    I do no think I am completely correct.

    Edit - I am beginning to think there may be two seals at the differential. One in the housing and the other on the CV joint and they protect different surfaces.

    The differential has an oil seal inside, and on the CV there is just a metal dust guard. I think there is a part number for the metal dust guard, but most people don't replace it. If you're careful removing the axle it won't get damaged. You can also carefully transfer it to a new axle if needed (if it's damaged on the new one) or straighten it if it's slightly dented. New and remanufactured axles generally include this dust guard as well as the seal on the other end of the CV, described below.

    I believe 90316-A0001 is the one pressed into the knuckle and 90304-A0001 is the corresponding one on the CV that interfaces with the 316 seal.

    I can take some detailed photos later.

    I think I finally understand your explanation now that I have I begun to hold it as my primary reference for these seals rather than using it to support the Toyota parts references. Most of my confusion is due to the Toyota parts catalog exploded assembly images so I am going to call a dealer to put myself through this agony to determine if they can resolve the questions there websites bring to mind. The question I have for you at this time is, 'Don't the differential seals (above) get pressed in from the exterior of the housing?" In other words, replace the 90311- seals on both sides of the housing then install the CV axles I've purchased in the diff. The -A0001 seals are both at the knuckle. CVJ confirmed the 90304-A0001 is the correct dust shield for the CV joint at the hub.

    Yes, the differential oil seals get pressed into the diff. I bought them aftermarket, so I can't confirm the part number. You might not have to replace them if you have low miles.

    The best tutorial I found is here, but some of the part numbers might be different on a Tacoma. There are a couple good videos on YouTube as well. The online parts catalogs don't seem to have the same info that the dealers have. And the names for some of these seals are confusing or misleading.

    Here is the list of items I just ordered. The lower ball joints on each side have ~1 mm of movement. The driver's outer tie rod end makes a nice click!

    @M85 - You are right regarding this CV axle replacement tutorial. I have never read such a thorough description of any parts replacement.
