The Airaid system showed some good results when Dino'ed....would like to see some numbers before passing judgement. They are similar in pricing as well

Hope your not referring to toyota engineers.
Toyota hands out contracts to manufacturers for stuff like this.

they haven't been released yet. only a couple prototypes and a few productions ones exist currently... but i spoke with the reps in Australia a few weeks ago and i was told mid to late October is when they will start trickling into the US... $400-500 range but imo much more bang for your buck if you ask me compared to the normal intakes...

Just to share a little on engine power: most of our engine power comes from our engine displacement, volumetric efficiency, and engine management. Toyota/Lexus does a top notch job of delivering power out of a 3.5L engine. The engine is quite volumetricly efficient, and the engine management gives us nice power when we drop the hammer. An air intake, otherwise know as tubing and a filter, will not add that much power to the stock Toyota system. Some companies may claim 15-20 hp, but rest assured, the gains are not very useable. They are likely at the very top of the RPM band; when the engine's cams have petered off. In real life, you may gain .5 - 1 mph in the 1/4 mile which is negligible. What you will get is less noise cancelation in the induction, letting you hear more Helmholtz effect from your heads and intake manifold. This makes your truck "sound" faster, which can give you a placebo effect. Unless you need a snorkel, for deep water, which is an entirely different situation, any product over $175 for a mandrel bent air tube and and filter is overpriced. Companies get big money for these intake kits because people do not know better, and they are willing to throw huge money for a plastic tube and a filter; which probably cost less that $40 from China. Bottom line: your $475 gets you about 1-3 useable horsepower, which, in my opinion, is too much $$/HP. Want power, change your gears, and have your truck properly tuned to match the gears.

Couldn't have said it better. Air intakes are the most overrated scam mods, that give you the false butt-dyno sensation of being faster. Rule of thumb, making more noise and making useable power are two different things.

I really get a kick out of the "ear" dyno. It seems to plague the Honda Civic crowds.
