AFE makes one that in essence seems to be a better fit bit is pricey as well. Being that this TRD intake looks exactly like my stock intake except with logo and better filter, probably best to change over to a trd filter and keep the stock box

That is true, and this almost 100% "perceived" value. The value is perceived because the cost/benefit ratio appears to be a marginal benefit, but if, and only if, people buy into great transfer propaganda marketing; transforming the product's image of low "real" value items into an opinion of high value items. The truth is that there just is not any real, marginal value there in this case

so bringing up the topic again, I had not checked for a while but it seems K&N and AFE are now posting dyno results for their kits.
    AFE: http://afepower.com/media/catalog/product/files/pdpfiles/5/4/54-76005j1600.1472671765.jpg

    K&N: http://www.knfilters.com/dynocharts/77-9039_dyno.pdf

You'll notice that AFE claims best gains at 4,500RPM while K&N claims around 5,400RPM. Comparatively there are some differences in their tests but looks like you could bank on about 15 HP and 13 ft lb torque.

    worth the price? maybe.

I come from the sports car world, and intakes were like $80 to $150. Seeing "truck guys" get gouged like this hurts. =/

Thanks to the Wrangler world. So I used to work in the Aftermarket segment back in the 2000's. Back during the import craze. Once that got cracked down it seems like most manufactures went away or started looking to the jeep industry. Everything now is a minimum of $300 for anything. I had a built Wrangler and it was insane.

I guess we can chalk it up to "inflation" or maybe manufactures realize people are just willing to pay more now. Either way its not a cheap hobby.

I will say that I had the minivan engine in my wrangler and with AFE intake and exhaust, and Superchips programmer, it did make a difference. I just wouldn't pull the trigger on anything if they are not willing to post dyno results.

side note, I just saw a TRD PRO on the dealer lot this morning, the aftermarket has way better offerings than paying the premium price tag.

I have the K&N drop in made for Toyota. I noticed better pedal response... something a lot of newbs complain about. Coupled with an aftermarket exhaust and yeah it's got a little more juice for sure. Yeah the Honda Civic is kinda obnoxious AND loud.

Haters gonna hate so hate on bros. :crapstorm::drunk:

Save your $$ and use it on other mods.

Replace the stock filter with a good cotton drop in, either AFE or K&N and call it a day, you won`t have to buy another one.
Clean it and put it back in.

My last K&N drop in was used in my 98 and 01 Taco, I did not buy a filter for 18 years.

My wife had a Corolla for 16 years, one air filter was bought for it, the K&N was used for 16 years in it. Her new car has a K&N drop in, I won`t ever have to buy another air filter for as long as we keep it.

The first item purchased for my 3rd Gen was K&N drop in.

I put the K&N in mine last night, took it for one drive and took it out. The noise was obnoxious, and even after I realized I forgot to reconnect the breather hose which did help it was still way to loud. I had one in my Jeep TJ and it only made noise mid rpm and up under full load, but even then it wasn't even close to this one.

In regards to everyone discussing the power gains from an intake, ounces make pounds. If you can start growing power here and there as products become available it starts to be noticeable. The biggest issue that we don't realize is most of us don't put everything on at once, unless you roll like that $$$, so we only see the ounces not the pounds. But its also an appearance factor similar to people that will pay 500 for the TRD Pro grille......

You should be running the rubber plug that covers up that hole in your intake. Hot engine air will cause you to lose mileage as well

It wont stay on it fits loose and not tight. It fell off on the first day of the install.Luckly it dropped onto the bottom of the engine bay and not completely off the truck.I called AFE they said they are redesigning the rubber piece so it fits tight. But I won't need it anyway I ordered the opional scoop.Right now it wont be shipped until October.
