I doubt it is much different or has an significant benefit besides looking all TRD kewl brah. Don't think any engineers spent time on this one. lol.

It was just a joke. Toyota outsources that stuff. It's mainly for looks as a revenue source. That's all

I know. lol. And I did laugh, still waiting for him to chime in. Love that guy and his dead horse of turd gen. I can't believe the price on this stuff, guys dropping $120 on TRD shift knobs.

Without someone running an IAT test on stock and aftermarket intakes, the thought process of hot engine air is only partially an issue.

You would be surprised possibly, but the most expensive aftermarket intake for the SECOND GENS, did not pull in any colder air than stock at around 35mph.

I also have the aFe CAI....thinking of getting the air scoop.
Have you gotten yours and installed it? If so....what's your take on it?
    Thanks!

Come over to the german side. Intakes for c63s are around 1500. Headers 4500. Exhaust, 6000. Tune 1k. You don't want to see what people pay for HRE wheels...

Anyone else notice the aFe intake is *not* CARB compliant for California?

I wonder if that means there is some validity to the anecdotal reports of better MPG and a little better power? aFe posted a dyno plot but it looks (very) optimistic. I am curious if there is some validity to their power claims if they are somehow trading emissions compliance for power/efficiency...much like what VW did with their ECU programming scandal? Not sure how you would do that via intake design, but it's a thought.

It looks like the dyno curve is going to be worse at cruising speeds. The HP and torque curves drop below stock under 2500 RPMs. Already the truck feels a little weak there when cruising on the highway, this might even make it worse!

Looks more like an AEM, who designed the v2.0 intake for 2nd gens.
They also delete the resonator from the stock intake tube, which makes it louder at higher rpms.

The extra inlet may be beneficial (basically the deck plate mod on 1st gens). No need to run the rubber plug unless you expect to ford deep water.

K&N designed the 2nd trd version according to Gadget, but even if he was wrong, guess who owns aem?

    Yup, k&n...
    So, k&n

True but it'll only be hot engine bay air it'll bed pulling in therefore a less dense air charge will be going to the motor

Interesting. Back when the partnership was announced in March 2009 (http://www.transnationalcapital.com/news/aem/index.html), AEM was to do the engineering design while K&N took over mfg and sales & marketing. I suppose a lot could have changed over 7 years.

The TRD is the only one tht is CARB exempt
So I guess they can get away with charging whatever they want for it
